Friend has a 3800+, would it be worth it to upgrade to X2 4200+?

I know having the X2 4200+ would be the best overall, however i'm not sure about the performance. Would a 3800+ single core do better than a 4200+ dualcore in non-multitasking operations? Or would it be equal, or better?

If a X2 4200+ cannot compete with the 3800+, then what can?

I heard a X2 3800+ is equivalent to a singlecore 3200+ or somewhere around there

Is it worth upgrading from a 3800+ singlecore to a 4200+ dualcore for just $90?

Well, I was in a situation like that, I used to have a sempron 3200+ and I upgraded to an Athlon64 X2 3800+ and even though the speed difference was from 1.8GHz to 2.0GHz, I absolutely did notice the performance increase to the dual core. For example, lets say you want to burn a cd and while that finishes you want to play game. The single core will do one thing and then do the next, which will slow one of the operations. In the other hand the dual core can perform both tasks at the same time.

Now, the 3800+ could perform slightly, slightly better than the 4200+ in single tasks but why would you not buy a dual core processor? You will sonner or later we willing to do at least two demanding tasks at once.

But in short, yes a single core 3800+ (2.4GHz) performs slightly (you dont even notice) better than a dual 4200+ (2.2GHz) in single-tasks but to be honest I would go X2!

The clock speed would not shock him nearly as much as the dual cores. If he is overclocking he'll see an even higher difference.
