Please explain what are you trying to do and what happened a bit. Let me know if i understood well:
You are trying to install windows 98 to install than windows xp.
To install windows 98 you want to use a bootdisk for windows98 to be able to install it.
What's the problem? You got into MS-DOS and you don't know what to do?
Or the bootdisk won't boot?
Well, if it's a new computer or if it had windows xp installed on it and it has the NTFS file system on every partition, you can't. You need to use a partition manager, for example Partition Magic 8 (the Boot Disks), format at least one of the partitions to fat32 and it will work.
Also, if it's a new computer you may have trouble with 98 because it won't see the whole hard drive, just part of it.
After managing the partitions put the windows 98 bootdisk and boot from it, select
Start with CD Support when asked and then:
1. You need to find out if the partition is working. Type
C:\, then
dir and if you recognize any of the file that is there (or no file) than that partition is working
2. You need to find out what the CD drive letter is. Usually it is 2 letters after the last partition (for example if you have C: and D: partitions, than the CD-ROM is F

.
3. Navigate to the CD-ROM (Just type [letter]:\)
4. Navigate to the Windows setup folder. To do that you'll need to know the following DOS commands:
Code:
dir - shows the content of the folder you're in
cd [foldername] - enter a folder
cd .. - goes back to the previous folder in the tree
After you find the setup files of win98 type "setup.exe" and the setup is launched.
If you want to see the contents of a text file, type
type [filename.extension]
