Friend's computer is "slow"

A friend of mine has a pretty cheap Acer aspire 5315 notebook. It's a snail when it comes to speed. Celeron process, 1GB RAM, running windows Vista Basic, 120GB HDD. The windows experience rating is only 2.4 also. The only think I can think of is to max the RAM out (only supports up to 2GB), and play with some of the setting on the notebook itself. Anyone else have any ideas on how I can get this thing to run faster?

Nice. Hey, better is better right? lol

Might want to see if you can find a copy
of Windows 7 Beta.

It looks similar to Vista but is MUCH lighter
and boots faster than XP.

Anyway, can you open Task Manager and
see what processes are running under the
Administrator account? Screenshot would
be best. Once you see what's running you
can go into msconfig and stop some programs
from running at startup. You'll notice a huge
difference if you get those down.

Hi,

First post here, thought i'd do it in this post rather than start a new thread.

My laptop is also running very slow, I have been told that 'registry cleanup' will sort it out - other means have failed.

Does anyone know of a free programme which will do this? A search only seemed to bring up ones which you have to pay for.

Thanks in advance.

Could we get some specs on your laptop? It would help us out.

Yeah I know the 1GB of RAM is really the weak link of this computer. I'll have to get another stick of RAM in this computer ASAP.

I used her computer for a couple days over at her place because I didn't bring mine over. Now I'm using mine, and it's like night and day speed wise. I got a Pentium Dual Core Processor, 2GB of RAM, and running Vista Home Premium. I also did some tweaks to mine, but didn't change my rating. I'm still at 3.2.

I would like to suggest the same.. Some programs running at startup are unneccesary. You can stop those programs and if you'll need it you can always start the program from the program files.:)
