Friends's PC Problem

My friend is having a problem with his pc, he has a old pc but he will be looking to upgrade soon but for now he uses the old pc, the problem he is having is hes getting a error saying something with chipset and his cpu is old its a amd athlon 1.7 ghz his motherboard is works great. Anyone know why he is getting the chipset error. I will get more information from him if hes getting blue screen. But for now anyone know what the problem is.
