From USA to Germany

I just moved from the USA to the black forest of germany. I noticed that I can not access certain webpages because of my region. IE if I go to www.cnn.com in germany it will redirect me to edition.cnn.com
or pc.ign.com sends me to uk.pc.ign.com
Is there a way to manipulate the isp so I can access theis sites?

Sure, but the mods haven't encouraged arbitrary blindness, as far as I know. I remember one of them encouraging a case to case basis, to use our own judgment.

Proxy servers can be used badly, but this isn't one of those cases
 
Even if they do, all this would do is allow the site to be viewed in a non-intrusive manner. Wouldn't hurt anyone, least of all the ISP or the government.

If all they're doing is promoting local sites, at the expense of possibly better sites, screw them. Who cares what they want? We're the consumer.

All I am saying is that discussion of proxies are against the rules.
 
They've told us to use common sense. In the recent rules reminder post APJ posted that it's against the rules to discuss or help with Port forwarding problems. Everybody was all like "OMG, no port farwording!?!1! I'm not cuming back here." And then APJ was all like,

This doesn't affect our image or "clients" and it won't get us in any trouble, and it's clear to me that it's not being asked to commit illegal activities. Thus it's not against the rules

Yeah, but in this case, if you post a few proxy sites, for the person using it legally, that may get into the wrong hands, by someone else.





I want to note, I am not trying to start a flame war.

Just debating.

But that applies to everything else, remotely sensitive, that we post. Including the information on how to port forward. These sites are out there, if someone wanted them, they'd just google Proxy, viola. furthermore, anyone who needs a noob like me as a medium to find a proxy site, shouldn't be considered dangerous. :o

I'm just saying. These things will happen, i agree. We shouldn't refuse to help people who legitimately need assistance though, we shouldn't base our decision to help on a diffident and momentous fear of misdeed.

I'm not sure why it's blocked. I was thinking It was as I mentioned earlier, local site promotion or maybe a censor. Either way, I doubt they'd unblock. They'd probably come up with some crap excuse. :rolleyes: The good thing is that, in the extremely unlikely case they're doing it for good reasons, using a proxy won't negate those measures.
 
Some jackass the other day tried to say that uTorrent was an "illegal" program.

In fact, there's always some jackass on this board saying something is illegal when it's clearly not.

Saying (uTorrent, proxies, etc.) are illegal because they might be used to (download copyrighted material, etc.) is like saying cars are illegal because you might run someone over, or the Internet is illegal because it has CP, or computers are illegal because they can access the Internet, or your house is illegal because it has computers in it which can get on the Internet which has CP.

If you guys are just trying to become mods or something that's just severely homosexual and it's not going to work.

Maybe you should sit back and think about what you want to say before you post it.

1) We all know that P2P applications have some valid and legal uses, however lets not all be in denial about it, they are used for piracy.

2) So all of our mods on this forum are severely homo sexual? You have some sort of homo phobic deep rooted sexuality issue man? The internet is all about being asexual, not knowing who is male or female, and how old you are and how you look and where you live.

The thing is, talking about such subjects could be helping someone break the law or breaking an acceptable use policy from a school or business. This forum wants NO legal responsibility for any of that sort of thing, nor does it want to attract lawyers, the RIAA, FCC, or anyone else who could shut it down and or take it to court.

So, sure there may be some misinformation about certain subjects going around but that is no reason to act like child and name call.
