From Vista upgrade to Windows 8?

I had XP installed and upgraded to Vista by upgrade years ago.

Can I upgrade to Windows 8 or do I need Windows Full install, and IF I do a full install do I lose my other files?

I several PCs in my home running Vista, is there a way to get a multi pack with windows 8?

There's a PC in the kitchen, my wife and I both have a PC at each desk and the two kids PCs areVista.

If it originally had XP on it, you might have problems upgrading it to anything newer. Depends on the hardware and what the system specs are, what cpu and how much ram you have. While XP may have ran ok with only 1-2 gb of ram, anything newer requires at least 4gb to run efficiently. Heck, even some windows 7 machines can't be upgraded to 10 due to certain video display hardware installed, not compatible.

As far as I know, you can't get multipack licenses for windows 8 or 10, you could with 7 but can't find them anymore. You'll have to buy individual licenses. You could try Kinguin.net.

One of my PCs is using a full version of Vista, the other two PCs are Vista upgrades from XP.

The windows 7 upgrade should work on the full version,

Can I upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista upgrade using a Windows 7 upgrade?

Yes you can but again, how much ram is installed? You should do a clean install from the upgrade cd though, I'm pretty sure they still allow that.

Option 2 or 4. To be honest though, I myself wouldn't upgrade an old xp machine to 7. You should run the upgrade advisor to check for any incompatibilities.

My PC is a Dell, Intel running 3.33 with 2GB ram, 250G HD.

The other two PCs are, Intel 2.8 and Intel 2.5 with about the same extras.

As PC's got faster I reused my old software on newer systems I bought.

If you only have 2gb of ram and single core processors, newer os's will run like crap. If you can upgrade ram to 4gb and its cost effective then do it. You are probably running DDR1 and it most likely expensive at this point.

I just bought online a Family pack of Windows 7. That should get me through to 2020. Since we retired we look for deals and buy when we can. We can't keep up with the Jones and we don't try. I'm OK with last years designs on most sale items. We have more time now than money, and at 65 and 68 years old, we don't know if we will even be here in 2020.
