Front Panel Headset Audio Not Working

I built my computer a little over a month ago and my front panel audio mic and headphone ports have never worked. I opened it up to see if I had plugged it in correctly and I believe I have. I had a AC'97 audio/ HD audio plug I believe, which I plugged into the port on the motherboard that my book said. However, it still doesn't work. I also have a short wire that says speaker and two short wires connect a rectangle box to a cylindrical side that has a + and ds written on it. Any ideas? thanks.

This my other audio plug that I believe is in the correct port

In section 2-34 of the manual it shows you the AAFP jack on the mobo and how to hook it up... confirm that this is what you did.

It also has a bios setting to change depending on what you connect.

The yellow one must have HD audio written over it.
Plug only the yellow one in the bottom leftmost socket just above your PSU(assuming the PSU is at the bottom of the case)

Ah, I probably need to set it to HD in the BIOS. I never thought about that, thanks guys. I will report back in a second.

Try the AC' 97 and let it stay on HD on BIOS and if not working then switch from HD in bios to the other option you have.

A DVI cord why?

I was only asking because I had an issue once that if my monitor was hooked directly by an HD Cord then the sound was sent through that to the monitor and all other things shut down, DO you have sound hooked up through the back as well? If so you might have to go through your sound hardware and allow it to use the front ones AS WELL as the back ones at the same time. I can't help if its a bios thing, talk to mihir for that :)

AFAIK in my bios it has only two options.
HD audio - ON/OFF

It does not have any option for the AC ' 97.
Once I was just messing around and turned of my HD audio and plugged in the AC '97 pin and the front audio port stopped working and when I turned on the HD audio at the that time the front Audio jack started working.

Well I changed my plug to AC'97 and nothing happened, so then I switched it back. This time it miraculously worked. I made sure it was plugged in fully before on multiple occasions, so I doubt that was the problem. Whatever the problem was, it is now fixed. I appreciate all of the help!

Creepy.... tip toe away from it, don't want to break it again.

So the fix in case anyone else has this same problem is just keep is to keep plugging and unplugging stuff until it works. I love problems like that.

I have a weird problem with my soundcard.... if i try to play Call of Duty 4 it will crash everytime... but if i plug a cable into my lineout jack on the back of my computer it will work. so i have a small audio adapter plugged into my lineout jack does that make any sense... no sir it doesnt.

this is what i have plugged into the back of my computer to make COD4 work
