Frustrated with recent purchase of win8, and ??

Did you misstate what you don't like about Win 8? The way I read what you said is that you don't like Win 8 because of what others say/think about it. "I don't like the negativity around it so i'm returning it" Why in blazes would you care what others say/think about the OS you use?

Is there something specific that you don't like about Win 8? I struggle to understand what people don't like about Win 8 since if you take away the Start screen (nothing says you HAVE to use that), Win 8 is much the same as Win 7. If you absolutely can't get by without the Start menu then you can always install one of the crutch apps like Classic Shell.

You raise good points. Personally after watching videos of win8 I think it looks cool and I like new things. I really don't think I would mind it. However....I have a few friends that are in IT and they all hate it. I personally don't understand why everyone can't understand the concept of the new start screen to me it looks simple or at least the idea behind it.

Plus i'm frustrated that they say they are coming out with 9 before long.

One friend that has win8 says there's stuff continuously running in the background which drags down the speed big time.

I need to take some pc courses it appears.

Also..............after reading all these comments i'm now having second thoughts on returning this pc. I don't personally mind new stuff in fact I like it. I'm just worried i'll be stuck paying for something destined for the trashcan like some people say.

If I can upgrade it to win9 then maybe it's not so bad. It has 8.0 on it and I see I can already upgrade that to 8.1.

I don't know......I may end up saying screw everyone else and keep it. The all-in-one is what I really wanted as i'm moving my study/pc stuff into a smaller room. I just thought i'd order the latest and have got nothing bad mouthing about it since it arrived. Until I got on this site that is.

Must be some software he has installed on his PC. Windows 8.1 runs faster than 7 SP1 on equivalent hardware and especially on older/lower-end hardware.

I'm not sure really. After reading all these comments I am leaning more towards keeping it. I just finished my room, which was a back porch and I boxed it in and insulated it etc. Just moved in a desk and school starts monday I just assume get it set up and situated.

I guess since I don't do much with computers except for getting on the net and typing an occasional document then what difference would it make what OS I have because I don't know anything much about any of them anyway.

Ok........the bipolar just subsided (lol) and you all talked me into it. I hope you don't mind the questions that are going to follow lol. I will try to find a tutorial or online class or something. And yes, I do have the touchscreen and it's a 23" and I am using a small screen now for years and I am really anxious to see a bigger screen.

Even when Win 9 actually ships it will probably have its share of new OS issues so you may not want to rush into it anyway.

Win 8 isn't perfect but, IMO, it is a perfectly usable OS with lots going for it. If you were asking whether you should upgrade a system currently running Win 7 to Win 8, I would advise to stick with Win 7. However, I wholeheartedly endorse Win 8 for new machines.
