Hey guys,
Im new to the forum, and Im hoping you can help me out. I have tried doing searches via yahoo, and the microsoft website, but to no avail. Hopefully I am posting this under the appropriate topic; if not, I appologize. So onto the source of my frustration. For the last few months, I have been having a bit of a strange issue with my computer. It is an HP desktop, with Windows XP Home edition. The problem is a little bit long winded, so bare with me. The problem is that at random times, I can't click on certain things on my computer screen. For instance, after I first turn my computer on, I am unable to click on the "start" button, or anything on the task bar. I move my mouse to those areas, and click it, but nothing happens. I can click on the icons on the desktop fine, but I can't click on the start button or the task bar. On rare occasions, something similar happens while Im surfing the internet and have internet explorer up, as I can move my cursor around the screen fine, but I cant click on anything on the webpage. I cant click on any links, any pics, any icons.... I can't even click on the "minimize" or exit button on the top right corner of the browser. Strangely enough, when this happens with an internet web page, I AM able to click on the start button or task bar without a problem. Now, the good news is that I have found a way to temporarily solve the problem, but its only temporary until it flares up again, or I restart the computer and the start button and task bar freeze up again. The temporary fix is by hitting "ctrl, alt, and delete" but this is where it gets really weird. When the windows task manager subsequently pops up, I dont disable a program, or reboot the computer, I just merely close the task manager window (hitting the X in the upper right hand corner of it), and suddenly every thing works fine again. Im dumbfounded. Hopefully someone can help!! Im sorry that Ive been so long winded, I just wanted to make sure to explain it to the best of my ability. Any thoughts or suggestions?? It would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. Keith
