Well guys and gals hate to post a sob story, but thats just about what it amounts to.
I got a nice Samsung HMX-H200 HD Camcorder for Christmas. Of course, I shoot a test clip in 1080i, the absolute highest setting. To my dismay I find my poor old Compaq can't even play the file, much less edit it.
So I check ebay and wind up with a used Intel D915GEV Motherboard with an P4 HT @3.0ghz. I was thinking this would be a beast of a motherboard, and to a degree, it is. (To me, for about $30, it is) It came with 512mb of RAM. I also purchased a Gigabyte Radeon 4350 Graphics Card with 512mb of RAM.
So the total current system specs come to:
Intel Pentium 4 HyperThreaded @ 3.0ghz (HT is enabled)
1.5GB of system RAM (This also works fine, it is not dual channel, but there's always plenty available)
Gigabyte ATI Radeon 4350 512mb Video Card, GPU@690MHZ/Mem Clock@500MHZ
The Hard Drive is not partitioned, it is 160GB not sure of the RPM.
Running Windows XP Professional, it is CCleaned, Defragged, and kept up pretty well. It runs other programs like a dream and you can edit the SD video. But attempt to play higher than 720 and it stutters terribly, and trying to edit 720 it lags pretty bad.
The Video Card doesn't ever seem to come on, when I bring up Catalyst Control Center, the percent of activity never rises above 25% or so. Temp never gets above 40 deg celcius, but when I select "Auto Tune" which automatically overclocks it, it will max itself out. What I don't understand is why it won't do this when I need it to work!
My editors are Videopad, and I am trying Cyberlink PowerDirector. I like PD a lot, actually, and I think it would be worth the cost of $69.95 IF I could ensure I could make my system work better.
Any help you guys could offer would be much appreciated...I'm at my wits end with this thing and I'm outta cash.
