Frustration. Please help!

Ok, so I just decided to buy myself a brand new desktop pc. I bought all of the parts online at Newegg.com and put it together myself. These are the parts I bought.

Power King 650w power supply
WL750GSA1672 SATA Hard drive
WHO8LS20 Blu-ray Disc Rewriter

Now this is the first computer that I ever built solely by myself but I followed the instructions carefully. I got it put together and put Windows 7 on it and it worked fine, at first. It started to power up but not boot up so I had to restart it a few times. Finally it just wouldn't boot up at all after I restarted it enough. I took it to my friends dad who is really into computers and we tinkered with it enough and got it working again. I played it for a while and it started to give me problems again and now I'm back to having an expensive night light. There is a light on the motherboard that shows when its reading the RAM and that's when I know its going to boot up but it doesn't always come on and now it just isn't. Also when I unplug the power entirely and put it back in, it goes for a second and restarts itself. That's only when I disconnect and reconnect all power. Any suggestions as to the problem?
 
ive unplugged everything all the way down to just the motherboard, RAM, and CPU. I still dont get the little blue light. Everytime the blue light comes on it works fine.
 
agree. sounds like mobo or PSU

try attempting boots with only 1 stick of ram at a time and try different DIMM slots, then you'll know if you got a bad stick or a bad dimm slot

one of the newegg reviews spoke of the PSU fan being taped down... check that the fan is spinning and the PSU isn't overheating. also, a lower-end PSU could just be faulty, someone else talks about those ones being hit and miss...

yeah i dont know if its the PSU. my dad got that off of ebay so i dont have much info on it. but my friends dads PSU wouldnt even power up my motherboard and he has a pretty good one. if its the motherboard what should i do about it?

first, read the reviews I posted above and search for other reviews

if the PSU is ok, check your ram in a different rig

if you narrow it down to the mobo, RMA it with newegg...

the wierd thing is you got Windows 7 installed before having troubles..... so it makes me think that the power being supplied is inconsistent or the PSU is just acting up, i dunno
 
Why would you buy dual channel ram when the motherboard ram is triple channel? It may or may not be the case but I think you might have a bad PSU. Also what PSU was your dad's friend using out of curiousity? Im also thinking the RAM may have something to do with it... Dual channel RAM on a Triple Channel RAM motherboard...

I agree, both looks like they could be responsible for the trouble. I really think that high-end parts need a proper, reliable PSU imo

if you save $50 on your PSU, what has it really cost you by burning out your other parts one by one?

trying one stick of ram at a time should give you some indication of whether or not the ram is good, and it's just messing up when all are installed because of the dual channel / triple channel issue...

well i think ill start with getting a replacement on my motherboard and just kinda work from there on the things you guys said. the help is very appreciated(especially since im pretty new to this all) thank you all greatly.
 
Hope everything works out OP, but I definitely agree with the others. Get a new motherboard and look into getting a better PSU. Getting a good PSU is one of the key things in keeping those expensive parts in good conidition. Post back and let us know what happens.

I would also look at RAM compatibility too for your motherboard. That plays a big factor on your mobo.

Nope, that's possible, iirc, it'll just run in single channel.

The PSU could've just blew all your components. Will it boot connected to another PSU? Ask your dad's computer buddy if he has one you can use to check with.

ok, so i got my motherboard back and didnt even connect it all up, just the basics, to see if it would work. same problem. all thats hooked up is 2 sticks of ram, cpu and video card. nothing. im still lost. any suggestions?
