FSB Pumped or not???

Hi, First Post Here!

Im not sure if this is a place for a noob or not?

I am having trouble working out if my FSB is double pumped/quad pumped or if it is pumped at all.

These are my specs



#Acer Aspire 3000 notebook#

Mobile AMD sempron 2800+

Core speed = 1600 MHz (1.6G)

Multiplier = x8.0

Bus speed = 200.0MHz

HT link = 800 MHz

RAM = DDR 256MB (166MHz)


And also would i be right in saying that DDR RAM running at 166MHz is "double pumped" by sending data on the rising and falling edge of the signal rather than just on the rising edge?

It's an AMD; there's no such thing as 'FSB'. HT link is AMDs FSB-equivalent, to get the HT multiplier divide HT link speed by bus speed = 800/200 = 4. I guess HT multiplier of 4 is somewhat equal to a quad-pumped FSB, though I don't think you can compare HT and FSB...they're just too different.

(Just wanted to add that HT link with a multiplier of x is probably *kind of like* "x data rate FSB". But there's really no way to compare these two, as I just said they're way too different)

And yes, that DDR statement would be correct.

What about finding if this one's FSB is pumped, How is one to know?

Intel pentium 4

Core speed = x15.0

Bus speed = 100MHz

Rated bus speed = 400MHz

Ram = SDRAM 512MB

Yes that is quad pumped.

The way to find out is divide your rated bus speed by your FSB. In this case, 400/100 = 4.

Newer Intel's are also quad pumped, 266.5 x 4 = 1066 and 333.3 x 4 = 1333.

Great thanks for clearing that up for me!!!

So if there is no rated bus speed, and the bus speed is just 100MHz does that mean that it is not pumped at all?

Depends what processor it is your talking about, newer AMD's don't have an FSB, but they have something similar (bus speed and hypertransport).
