I’m having lots of fun with my hard disks at the moment.
My current C drive developed some error on Friday and Norton GoBack attempted to reboot the PC but failed. After running CHKDSK in thorough mode it appears to have solved the problem and at the moment the drive is working again for the time being although Event Viewer reported several problems including events 7 to say the disk has some bad blocks and Event 55 suggesting some important files had been corrupted.
I had a similar thing happen a year ago with my old Maxtor HDD and I had to replace it. It’s still inside the machine because it’s still readable but I haven’t made any changes to it and although I did manage to boot into it a couple of when I tried a couple of days ago it now won’t boot up again.
Fortunately all my data is fully backed up and I’m hoping this current C drive will keep working again now for a while but as it’s only just a year old I’d really appreciate if anyone could please suggest any ideas as to why this keeps happening to my hard disks.
Also what program would anyone recommend to find and mark bad clusters so windows won’t write to them.
Thank you in advance for any ideas peeps.
