Hey this is actually about a cd writer, but its just a funny story so i figured it didnt deserve a place in the fabled cd/dvd technology section :D Me and my bro were installing a cd writer in his old p3 and it was refusn to recognise either drives. Its an ancient computer and you can hardly see the motherboard coz of all the wires everywhere, and turns out we'd acidently pulled the other end of the cable out :P You cant get much worse than that!!!!

Done that before. Just goes to show you that double/triple checking the basics can really pay off in the end.

Hehe

Yeah same here. I have a simmilar story. It involved my previous setup. I put all the things together and then got ready to power up the PC. It did not work. I spent over an hour testing things, taking them out and back in again. I checked all the cables and so on and then... by luck...realised the power cored was not plugged in the PSU. Could it get any worse?

JAN :D

When i tryed to install my new motherboard ui put everythign in, nothign happened when i tryed to power on, so i went oh well, put back in my old one(I was going to go game in a lan)so nothing happened again, 3 hours to figure out that my power button which was on the fritz finally gave up and completly died off. So now I start my comptuer with a screw driver to conenct the two pins the power switch goes too.

It takes me like 5 minteis to start onj my computer everyday, 1 mintie to press the button a few times, then relize afer a mintie the power button is still broken, then another 4 to open up the case and get the screwdriver on the two pins perfectly(directly under a ide cable :( It''s getting hella annoying, i need to go to frys to pick up a new one this weekend.

Well how about this one then. My dad had an old Windows 98 system that was due for retirement, re-furbishment and ready for Linux.
So I did it all myself and then got a system disk error, naturally I thought "I've taken Windows off so there would be" (ERROR1: It would say disk read error or something different). Anyway I tried to install Linux and it didn't work still the system disk error.
I stared at the insides for a long time trying to work out what was wrong I was at my wits end.
I decided that I must've blown my HDD or something along those lines I must've broken it. (almost 1 week has passed by now) and so I thought it was time to replace the HDD, so while my dad was ordering a new one I removed the old one. As he clicked the final place order button it hit me

I didn't plug in the power cable for the HDD.......
