Fuzzyness in Windows

hello everyone

im new here, and im not too sure if this is the right forum to be posting in but since i have tried everything this is my best bet.

well, the problem (well mainly annoyance) is that in windows, most icons appear fuzzy, at any resolution, on 2 different monitors, on 3 different gfx cards. instead of their natural rounded figure, its as though it imitates it using like straight lines, therefore appearing fuzzy. also this happens when i open up programs, like label headings such as "Half-Life 2" and the picture also are very fuzzy.

as i said i tried, 2 different monitors, 3 different gfx cards (2 ati, 1 nVidia), i have tried many screen resolutions, tried 3 different themes, i have also tried everything in the effects bar in the desktop>properties>appearance> effects.

i put it in the windows thread because of it not being the gfx card or monitor. if there is a more appropriate thread, please change it to that one. as i sed b4, this is just an annoyance, but its something i would like changed. i will link a pic for wat im talking about :P to see if anyone has similar problems. thanks ppl in advance!

it might not be very noticeable, but on my bro's comp, it is much, much smoother
 
Not at my winxp pc at moment but i think there is an option in one of the Taskbar menus to use High or Low quality icons.... try right-click on the start/task bar then go to prefrences and have a look in there in the mean time untill someone else posts.

nope i cant find the low/high quality setting, could it be somewhere else? i think i have seen something like that b4 in lik WIN ME, but its not only the icons, its most things in win like pics of a game in an installation window etc.
 
When you had these monitors connected, had you actualy loaded the drivers for them?
Go to "Display_Properties\Settings\Advanced\Monitor\" under 'Monitor Type' does it have the name/model of your monitor? or does it just say "Default MOnitor" or "Plug and Play Monitor".

well my one says plug and play, no drivers installed, my other ne was an LCD (not good for gaming :P) and it came in with the comp bought from packard bell, but i think it said plug and play too

ive been looking for the drivers in a lot of places, no luck. it seems Hitachi stopped making my Hitachi CM771 a long time ago, 4 years in fact. also, my nVidia 6600 GT could detect it being a Hitachi CM771 in nvidias settings, but not win XP hmm

well my CRT has never used drivers, as i cant find any. do u guys no where i could get free drivers for my hitachi CM771?

If the drivers for the monitor are not installed, it can cause a loss in image quality and reduced functionality of the graphics card.
Try another monitor(newer preferably) on the PC if posible and install the drivers too, to check if its just the old monitor causing it.

Try this searching for it on www.driverguide.com if you cant find the exact one then try installing the driver for the next model up or down from yours.

When you tried different resolutions, did you try playing around with the frequency? (Hz). Look on the back of your monitor or in the manual, it should tell you what the optimal (Hz) rating should be. Just a thought... ;)
 
well, idownloaded the driver for the monitor after mine, but it still installed as my monitor, although it did not fix the problem, the hz for the monitor, being old, is 50 to 60hz!, so ive always left it as 60 hz

The 50-60Hz refers to the Mains Power in your country i.e. 60Hz in USA, 50Hz in Australia, etc.

What Byteman was refering to is the Refresh Rate (In Hz) for your monitor... however this 'optimal' rate is normaly only listed in the user manual for the monitor.
Just click the little box that says 'hide ones this monitor canot display' then slowly go through the remailing ones and test each to see if any of them help.
 
oops my bad, well the monitor could go up to 100 hz, so i tried all of them but changed it to 100hz in the end, and nothing happened, could this be motherboard related by any chance, or processor or win xp home installation related?, this is factory made so i dnt have the cd to re-install. since its not gfx card, refresh rate, screen font setting etc.

im still thinking about the first thing u told me about icon quality, but i couldnt find it, is it still used in XP ?
