Fx-57

But more on topic, the FX57, kicking in at 2.8GHz puts it easily in spitting distance (with some exotic cooling mind you) of Intel's higher end product lineup with some overclocking
absolutly, it has to be said that in the gaming arena the fx57 tops the list. However the price deltas are some huge that unless your rich, or have a huge pc budget (not me unfortunatly, wife with shopping addictionleaves me little cash left over). For those of us who dont
a) own a swedish furnature chain,
b) run a large software coporation
c) have tiger wood style lazer surgery on our eyes

a 4800+ will be more than enough.

yeah somewhere in the 27 to 30 frames per second...anything over 30 something is completel waste of cpu power. That's what I heard correct me if I'm wrong.

How many FPS you can get is more of a bragging right then something you actually need.

The FX is dying and will soon be replaced by the dual core proccessors as more software is made to take advantage of its abilities. The FX-57 is still a bad mama jama though :)

I would just a dual core, just say to i have one, plus everyone i know would just be like woah! that must mean its twice as good as mine! and twice as fast in Ghz!, and it would make me feel better :) even though its not true.

Um.... videogame FPS isnt the same as FMV fps :) Anythign below 30fps is choppy and its only when you breach 40fps that it starts to not matter anymore

Well there is still a minimum hehe (i remember running Doom3 Beta at -8fps :P)

Hehe what are you doing in the company of those people? ;) (or trying to impress them) hehe

I remeber playing WoW on my Ti4200 @ 1.7 FPS with the settings turned up as high as they could go.

It still got 30 FPS on lowest settings though.

They are just friends that arn't into Computers. I let them think what they want heehee It makes my PC look better. Just like My DDR ram is twice as fast as before even though it barly is because of the FSB and one guy thinks you only need half of the ram you would of SD heehee.

I wish i have a dual core CPU....I wish i had a AMD 64CPU even....(I'll be getting that soon at least.)

Anyways, after 40FPS can you really not tell the difference at all? I never really looked atr my FPS, because i figured it would be low, and then it owuld make me want to upgrade my ocmputer more and more with all that money I DONT have.

Um ... WoW isnt exactly a hardcore (videowise) game ... even a simple card like the GeForceFX5200 can play smoothly

actually, the AMD64 X2 4800+ did better on almost all of the tests over the FX-57, in system scores, gaming scores, and overall scores. And its much cheaper, if i were to chose between them, i'd choose the X2.

Would you still choose the X2 over the FX-57 for a computer only used for gaming and burning dvds?

Oooh, can you tell me what WoW stand for because its becoming increasingly hard to find any decent games that will run smoothly on my FX5200, i know an upgrade is in order but money is in short supply after ordering my water cooling. Thanks

Its a brilliant card..... for £40 and if i went further with overclocking (which i will be when the GeForce i water cooled) it could easily reach fps of about 40-45.

Huh, excuse me but why on earth would you want to spend money on a water system? Don't tell me it's to cool that 5200..

If you a gamer put the money where it's needed, on a better videocard.

No, its mainly to cool my hot prescott but why not just pay an extra £10 and get a GPU block aswell.

Im not a gamer, i just dont like working that much, so i burn some time with games, i just want little games like UT2003, which is great but its getting boring, im looking for new games that dont require high specs. Is that not feesable around here anymore. Id there some kind of unwritten rule that says all users must have at least a GeForce 6600 or ATI equivalent??? I dont want to pay out hundreds upon hundreds of punds for a card that im going to use, like, literally once every 2 days. for about 40 mins at a time and not on any high spec games.

Just because its a relatively slow graphics card doesnt mean it doesnt get hot. Simple things like case architecture could cause theraml transfer problems and cause it to overheat to unnaccpetabl;e temperatures. I know the card is no 6800GT and i know im not going to be able to play Halo2 at 1280x1024, i doubt it would even load fully on my puny P4 2.8Ghz. So please, dont tell me to upgrade when i have no reason (or for that matter money) to do so, i like what ive got and i have valid reasons for cooling whatever i feel like cooling.

I have to say i have been wondering about why you are getting this water cooling dragon. As far as i'm aware your not overclocking you chip much, i mean your board doesn't even allow you to increase the vcore. Now i'm not saying dont get it - but i am saying that if you're looking to oc your chip then a better board may the order of the day. By all means get the cooling system - i'm sure it will help you on your next system, but for the mean time i cant see the benefit.

My processor idles at around 57 C and rises to a maximum of about 78 C. I would class that as being extremely hot. I want to buy watercooling to cool it down, if i wanted to oc then i would buy a dif cpu (i.e. not a prescott) aswell as a diff board, oc'ing is not on my agenda as this chip goes fast enough by itself.

Absolutely.

Heehee, there's a reson some 5200s come without fans ... cuz they dont punch out enough heat to make use of the fan

If its as hot as you suggest it is ... you'll prolly end up heating the CPU :P (i am kidding ... but not by much)

apj101/dragon2309 ... take this watercooling chat to a different thread. :)
