GA-X38-DS4 and GA-EX38-DS4

I had the GA-X38-DS4 in my wishlist a few days ago (newegg) and then I noticed it was gone. I discovered that newegg no longer carries it but instead has the GA-EX38-DS4. I'm not really sure what the difference is since I have my doubts about the specs.

The GA-EX38-DS4 says that one of the PCIe x16 slots runs at x4, but the GA-X38-DS4 had both at x16. Seems strange that an "improved" version would downgrade like this, not to mention that the X38 chipset was made for dual x16 slots. Even Gigabyte's website lists them as x16 and x4.

Anyone know anything else about the disappearance of the GA-X38-DS4 and this new one? What the differences are and if the specs really are correct?

Its a typo on newegg, it is 16/16

They are the same board, the only difference is the EX38 is suppose to be energy efficient, and removed the aux. molex connector and replaced it with some kind of led

But yeah, they're the same thing basicly

Wow, that's weird. I was *just* at Gigabyte's website less than 30 minutes ago and it said this (I copied it earlier):

"2 x PCI Express x16 slots (The PCIE_16_1 slot supports x16; the
PCIE_16_2 supports x4.)"

And now it says this:

"2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (The PCIE_16_1 slot supports x16; the PCIE_16_2 supports x16.)"

I guess they fixed it. :)

EDIT: Hmm, looks like the DS5 was also just added in the past few minutes as well.

This was happening last night, Mep916 was ordering the board and on the gigabyte site it kept changing from "2 x PCI Express x16 slots (The PCIE_16_1 slot supports x16; PCIE_16_2 supports x4.)" to "2 x PCI Express x16 slots (The PCIE_16_1 slot supports x16; PCIE_16_2 supports 16.)"

very strange

Well I'm pretty confident that it's exactly the same as the other one without the "E". Now if newegg would just have it in stock! :)

True, the mid tower should be just fine. Some of the Full towers are too big for my desk, the only thing is, i would expect a 8800GTX or 3870X2 to not fit, or be an extremely tight fit. :(

Yeah, I don't know exactly how big the 8800GTS (G92) is, but I'm sure it's hefty. My prior choice was the 800GT, and I'm sure that wasn't small either.

They're not as long as the GTX or the 3870 X2. If you decide to go with the 900, then the GTS should fit okay.
