.Gadget wont open with Sidebar

So I tried downloading a new gadget and open it with Sidebar and it wont open. Any ideas? I have had this problem for a while but, I am finally sick of it.

I disabled the sidebar here and at first created a desktop shortcut even when deciding to use it. With any 3rd party addon you may have seen an incomplete download or simply a bad install. Try going for a fresh copy and a second attempt with that to see if you have any success with that.

I have tried it many times and all the addons are straight from Microsoft website. I dont know whats going on. Hey. When you download a addon, what do you do? Open with Sidebar or save to disk?

The sidebar should be closed if the addon comes with an installer rather then you using a sidebar option to see it added on. Most should simply be a file saved to a folder and maybe a need to unpack there if compressed in a zip.

Once you use an installer or browse to a specific folder that should appear in the screen along with the other items to choose from. Sometimes with addons from MS you have to fight to see them work whether the sidebar or even WMP in XP. You should simply be able to double click on the file once saved to the drive to see it become part of the list however.

I double click the file and select "Sidebar" from the open with list and it wont open. There is no error or anything but, it just wont open. Is there anything I can do?

^^ All of the gadgets on the microsoft site are just .gadget files and not zip files. But, do you know of a site that has just zip files? That way I can still use some gadgets.

Edit: That server gadget was just a .gadget file inside of a zip file. So I un-zipped it into that folder and then opened it but, sidebar still wont open it. No errors or anything but, it just wont open.

Not offhand anyways. I got called away before I could get back to you on whether that from MS or another site you were trying to download and install from.

The link there details a unpacking a zip into the correct folder suggesting a 3rd party rather then actual MS gadget. And that is also what is seen when looking at the gadgets below the three at the top seen at http://vista.gallery.microsoft.com/vista/SideBar.aspx?mkt=en-us

The downloads are 3rd party with their own installer. I just downloaded the multicore meter with a popup warning about being a 3rd party and ran the installer upon a compete download. The gadget appeared instantly on the sidebar with ease. It sounds like you may have something there running that prevents any from going on.
