ok im looking for a great gaming labtop my price is 3500 max i have been looking at the Dell Xps and Alienwares Aurora™ m9700 i have been told that alienware is by far the best gaming computers but some people recently told me the dell xps were better any suggestions on what gaming computer i should look at?

i checked out their gaming laptops and they are decently priced...but the only thing is that you can only get an x1600 or a 7600go...not bad but if you want a really good notebook that can play those games really freaking well id go with something with a 7900...that could just be cuz i got a laptop wtih a 7400, and wish it was better but it still plays all the games great...just not the frame rates i would have wanted...but their prices do seem pretty damn good, much cheaper than dell or alienware, but you dont get the option of a better graphics card...although i cant justify another 1500+ just to get a 7900 from dell or alienware so i would go with them if i could get another laptop...lol i dont need another one...no but they seem fair priced if that helps at all

I would go with the Dell XPS, while I have never personally used an XPS laptop. I have had excellent experiences with Dell laptops.

You can also find nice coupons to allow you to get some extra cash off since you are spending upwards of $3,000.

I think you are getting hung up on brands. It's not so much the brand that matters as it is the specifications of the laptop. Thus, I think the more appropriate question to be asking us is the specifications that you should be looking for and then seeing what manufacturer offers those specifications (you can custom build an Asus laptop for example).

ok im kinda lost i can agree with me going for brandnames becuase thats all i know. i dont know what specs are good for me or what but i am looking for a 17 inch screen , im looking for a computer to play World of warcraft and Counterstrike and some battlefield any suggestions on that also links would help me a whole lot if you did not mind

Ok. Well, that's a place to start anyways. Counterstrike requires bugger all to run. It runs on the same engine as Pacman, doesn't it? :P WoW is the one I'm not sure on, as I don't play that game. I understand it needs a really good VGA though.

So would you say 100GB HDD, 17" TFT, DVDRAM and 1GB of RAM for starters? Not too sure about the VGA yet, but I'm sure we can figure something out.

Are we on the right track?

^^^^^
English please lol i dont really know the computer will be more for warcrat tho right now i have a huladpacker desktop and i can barley run both games so i just want something that will work and let me play the games as smooth and clean as possible but i dont know about the 100gb HHd or anything lol

Sorry man :o

The drive I'm suggesting is 100 gigabytes. That is a decent size in a laptop.

I'm also suggesting a 17" screen, a DVD burner and 1 gigabyte of memory.

For the VGA, what about a NVidia GeForce Go7400VX? Or something like it. I don't know much about that chip, but it's supposed to be quite powerful.

The 7400 is a pretty poor card, the x1600 is significantly better then that.

quick question/comment

after talking to my friend he told me that a laptop would be stupid for me becuase i am pretty much on the computer when im at home and really cant at work or when im driving and i dont travel that much and u cant bring laptops on planes anyways...... all that being said with the things you were talking about and me would you reccomend a desktop for me? sorry i know your trying really hard to help me and i just changed everything but if the computer works like i want it to ill probley pay you a tad bit for your help becuas eit has been great

hahaha. You're not going to pay me a nickel or I'll be pissed. lol

If you're only using it at home, stick with a desktop. We can configure a really nice one for you no problems. The only reason I have a laptop is because I need it on site.. not to mention the cats just love sleeping on the bag.

Components. Easy

Processor: AMD 64 (they are labeled ML XX. XX = numbers), AMD 64x2 (probably your best bet), or Intel Core Duo (I never used it before, so I'm just throwing it out there.)

Graphics Card: I'd go with nVidia since i've used them in all my builds. Get anything that is or over a GO 7200.

Ram: 1GB would be ideal.

HD: 100GB should be your minimum. Games these days take up a lot of space.

Get a DVD burner too so you can save things onto DVD's. That way you won't have to use like.. 8 cd's, when you can use just 1 DVD. Dual Layer is great too. LightScribe is also another option that's getting big with laptops and desktops.

I think that's about it...

First, yes, the Core2Duo. It is slaughtering AMD.

Graphics, the ATI X1900XT is on top right now

RAM: 1GB would be a minimum consideration and I would agree to roll with that for now. Consider 2 if you're going to Vista.

I agree with the HDD, although a bigger one won't hurt. I would look into the Samsung Spinpoint T's.

DVD burner is a good idea for sure.

Sound: Audigy 2 or better.

Power supply: Antec, Enermax, PC Power and Cooling, etc.

so is there a computer that has all that? or would i have to buy all the parts and put it toghter because if i had to Zomg im jumping off my room and leaving it to my kids to deal with lol

Well, you can always buy the parts from me, I'll do a half-assed job, I'll charge you through the nose and I'll put "kick me" on the box when I send it by mail.

haha

I would stroll down to your local computer shop and see what they can do for you.
