Games crash randomly after ~10 Mins

I have a new computer build on Windows 7 RC (See Sig). It's stable browsing the internet and general use, but as soon as I play Fallout 3/GTA IV/Left4Dead etc it crashes after around 10 minutes of play. The game crashes and not the OS usually but has done on one or two occasions before, following a BSOD (RAM?).

I've kept an eye on the temps and on idle my CPU is 35c (25c Amb.) and under load creeps up to 47c. Also seemingly good temps? I've got all the new drivers, had some problems with the Audigy sound card but ok now-ish.

Any suggestions welcomed. Will have a look at my card temps and report back.

Cheers

Is it possible that your GPU is overheating?
Have you ever used a different graphics card just to try it out?
Did this happen on another OS with the same GPU?

GPU idle is 51c and under load is 62c. I've not tested another card as I only have a cheap spare... Is the OS buggy in this area as it's apparent that there are people with similar problems?

Thanks for the fast reply

Radeon 4850 cards require 450 Watt or greater power supply with 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express® power connector.

I would say by the specs of the Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W that there's not enough juice to power the card.

After looking at the side of the PSU, the power is very tight... 216w on the 12v rail, CPU takes up to 120w of that alone.

I will lookout for a new one.

Many thanks for the suggestions!

Check your power supply temperature, it's probably way up there.

How does 82c Idle sound lol... PC Wizard states that... Can't be right!

It's strange I get BSODs sometimes in idle too, maybe the PSU is getting close to dieing totally

Sillysod,

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional support and assistance.

Hi, infact it's not RC it's Windows 7 Professional, my apologies.

Some good tips on the site! Thanks for the post Jessica.

Still not sure of the problem though... I used a Power consumption calculator and I was well within the limit, although I will buy a better PSU. Also just ran Memtest with no errors although the PC is generally unstable. So makes me think drivers.

Any suggestions welcomed & thanks for the help

Sam
