Games in Widescreen

So i want to get a new monitor for my computer. and i would really like it to be wide screen because i want to be able to watch movies without the bars, and i want to hook up a xbox 360 via a VGA cable and have it in wide screen since all the new games are going to that format. but what about computer games? are they in wide screen. can you get cracks for them that make them wide screen? the main games i play are as follows:
FEAR
Counter Strike Source
Half Life 2
Quake 4
basically just FPS games. no strategy games. no role playing games.
 
I'm not certain what games in your list are wide screen. But yes you can change settings in most games to make them run wide screen, sadly allot of those games then just look stretched. As for the movies, most will still have some sort of bar, although, thinner then before :).
 
i never could get counter stike source to support wide screen, in my opinion widescreen isn't impressive because most things don't support it properly, it's a pain to get stuff to where it's not distorted.
 
FEAR will run on my 1440X900 just fine, and things like HL2 i run in a window so they arent distorted. I could care less, cuz i love this monitor for watching movies and everything else.
 
I play Half Life 2 and Prey wide screen and love it. I have the benefit of having a 4:3 screen which sits beside my 16:9 so if a game don't support it... well I just run it on the other.
