Games keep crashing. Possible solution

So, here's my problem. I just built a new pc and when I'm trying tot play games like Dead Rising 3, Far Cry 4, Arma 2, and Arma 3 it crashes for no reason. It might crash 10 minutes into the game or maybe even an hour. But, here's what I think is the problem. I know for certain that Arma 2 and 3 are both processor intensive instead of graphic intensive. So, I think the games are crashing because, the processor is getting too hot and once it reaches it's "max temp" it just crashes it. If I could get your guys' input on what you think I would greatly appreciate it. My thinking is, get a better heat sink but, I would love to hear your suggestions.

Specs:

GPU: GeForce GTX 980 (not overclocked)

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k 4.0 ghz (not overclocked)

RAM: 16 GB

OS: Windows 8.1

PSU: Corsair 750w

Well to know if it's overheating you need to find the temperatures. Download HWMonitor and see what your CPU and GPU temps are when playing games.

Does it give you an error when it crashes? What exactly happens?

All it does is completely freeze the game and I open task manager and it says *whatever game* not responding. That's all that happens. And later today I plan on testing the temp while playing.

Overheating typically tends to crash the whole system, at least in the case of a CPU overheat. Report back with the temperatures, but I'm thinking it's probably something else.

As long as you installed the thermal paste correctly (or just left what was on there if it was preapplied) then it's probably something else.

You done a fresh install of your video drivers?

You need to read other people's answers before posting your own. No point just repeating what I said.

So, this is pretty ridiculous but, the problem was my HDMI cable on my monitor... I just got a new monitor from my Grandfather and the HDMI was bad. So, today I just got a new HDMI cable and I played Arma 3 for at least 2 hours and it didn't crash at all and the cpu temp was about 180 F which, I looked up and that was a normal temperature. So, thanks a lot for your help Darren. Have a great day. :)
