Games keep failing while playing

hello,

simple and easy.

i keep playing Total War Shogun 2, and at someparts in the game, (usually around when i save the game) my computer freezes.
Followed by windows coming up and saying the program has stopped working.

Just built my system a couple days ago and until now with this, there hasent been any problems.
THis has also happened on my other games such as my girlfriends sims 3.

heres my set up

HIS Radeon 6850 Icqx Turbo
320gb Western Digital 5400rpm (slow)
FX-6100 AMD 6 Core-3.3ghz
ASUS 990fxSabertooth Motherboard.

any help is appriciated.

If I was you I would be checking all my drivers are correct. I would also make sure the games are installed properly.

Another option might be to run a stress test on your computer, and see at what point it is stuffing up, or make sure your hardware is installed and configured right.

Just a few simple options. :)

well, i already updated all of the drivers, so that can't be the problem.

I have a huntch it may be a problem with the hard drive, since everytime there is a save and resume sequence, it seems to stall and fall out to windows error message.

You could try running a Check Disk to see if there are any bad sectors. Plus there are many Vendors out there that provide Hard Drive utilities for their products. I'm pretty sure WD do one, if you download the Ultimate Boot CD that has a few disk utilies on there that could help you out.

If this is your only problem it likely will be with the game not your computer, and from just a bit of research it shows that this is a common problem with that game.

I havent researched the exact cure to the problem, but it has been reported in numerous places, my first thought would be to ensure that your game is up to date, then you could try a re-install.

Edit: You could try some of the things here:

Errors and Fixes

Since it has also happened in The sims 3, although I have also read this same error can happen there as well, you could try updating your direct x go to:

DX Update

This has often fixed numerous issues for myself.

so, i dont think the system or cpu could be too hot.
when i run speed fan, im always under 50degrees cel.
I mean, i have a stock cpu cooler, i could upgrade it to a 212evo, or something of that nature, but i really dont think thats the problem.

i have a full tower haf x series.
so stock is 4 fans, 1 being a vacum on the side, hitting right on the cpu.
also i have another 3 fans inside.

if its because games dont like bulldozer chips, this is going to suck.

in the next year, i was thinking about saving up for a i5 2500k, and an intel mobo.

so if all else fails, thats what i guess ill do.

It could well be the bulldozer chips causing the problem, The issues with the bulldozer chips will be resolved soon enough, microsoft release an update for it not long ago but it got pulled from what I hear, dunno why, but it shows that a fix is close at hand.

As above, Bulldozer has known issues with a few games, ranging from instant BSOD's when running the game or problems like yours.

My advice to you is to wait until Microsoft releases a patch for Bulldozer (ETA is sometime Q1 2102, probably in the new year)
