games minimizing. and stuff. help

well i have been having lots of trouble with my graphics card drivers...

it was all ok until i tried to update to the newest drivers.

then no games would work.

i used to get the message "nv4_disp display driver has stopped working" or something when i had the newer drivers.
they would start and then freeze and i would have to press the reset button.

after trying a few different drivers i went back to my old ones, that just came with my 8800 GT.

they work most of the time.

except on Age of Empires 3. i can hear it but no video.

anyway now when i start up games they start and then minimize themselves.

when i try to restore them they will just minimize again. if i keep trying for long enough they will restore properly and i can play. but it really sucks.

any idea what i can do to stop this happening?

If you haven't already, download ForceWare version 169.21. Make sure you uninstall your current driver version before installing this package. If that doesn't help, you can try browsing through the nVidia Knowledgebase. That's usually not helpful, but it's worth a shot.
 
Check through all of the programs that are running. Even shut down your anti-virus, that could be kicking you out of the game as well...
 
i reformatted.

i needed to anyway. now its all working good.

i had tried about 5 different driver versions tho. the newest and some older ones.
