I have HP Pavilion with Inter core i7 processor, ATI Radeon Mobility 5650,4 GB Ram, and I have trouble running a games as simple as Civilization 5. As the game advances and I discover the world (even before I discover all map), every time I go through the map it takes time for it to load it, runs a bit slowly. even on low graphics. I mean, that can't be on such a simple game and a solid Graphics card like mine. Can I improve the performance?

Make sure any programmes that you have running are closed, MSN, and other like minded programmes.
have you tried lowering resolution?
Other than little things like this there isnt really a lot you can do as upgrading laptops is nigh on impossible.
Also ensure everything is updated such as gpu drivers, direct x etc.
have you tried messing with Catalyst to ensure its all set to performance and application managed?
Its under the gaming tab.
Things like this may help.
