I am currently in the process of building a rig that would be comparable to the Alienware Aurora ALX fully decked out. I know I can do it for cheaper than the exorbitant amount that they want me to pay. With all do respect to those who have bought from Alienware, is it really worth that much money to have a computer spray painted green with a little alien head on it? Cuz thats what you are paying for. Their "name". Ok, so here goes my first attempt at recreating the Aurora ALX.

The PC power & cooling PSU's are over rated, they aren't that great and there are better units for the price, anyway you know of the price drops on july 22, the QX6700 will go to like 530$ and there will be the QX6800 for the actual price of the QX6700.
 
Let's imagine that money is no object, but we still wanna build the best rig for the cheapest price. K?

Throw me out some gaming specs pls...see my first post in this thread to get an idea of what I want. I really need some opinions on this. For starters, let's talk about which mobo/cpu/gpu I need. Talk it up!
 
Why? DDR3 is crap at the moment. Don't get me wrong, the speeds are good but the timings are way too high yet.;)
 
Have you considered a gigabye P35 board with support for DDR3 1066/DDR 2 1066 and FSB 1333?

I am aware of the price drop on July 22 and I will prolly wait until then. Still, my build will not change so thats why I'm discussing it now. I noticed that the MB you suggested does not support SLI. I was kinda wanting that feature. My GPU's will be 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130079

What are your feelings on SLI and is there a MB out there that supports SLI as well as DDR3/DDR2?
 
I read the reviews on the striker and the gigabyte...both reviews were pretty bad....

Gigabyte>>>problems with flashing the bios?

ASUS>>>bios problems, running too hot, not posting.

Maybe the people who write these reviews just don't know what they are doing and screw stuff up.

I do have one question....what is the big deal with people wanting to flash their BIOS as soon as they get a new Mobo? Is there something I'm missing?
 
Sometimes flashing a BIOS can unlock new features, improve overclocking and even help support more CPU's, such as the upcoming 1333FSB CPU's from Intel. The damage from flashing is usually done because of a corrupt file written to the EPROM or something interrupted the procedure. It's not advised to flash your BIOS unless there's a major issue. For example my Dell had an issue with Linux and a flash fixed it but if I'd had a power or Windows failure I'd have had to get Dell to fix it.
 
I know what flashing the BIOS does, I was just wondering why you would need to flash a "brand new" mobo BIOS, but I suppose like alot of hardware, they are not shipped "up to date"....lol. Thx for explaining.

So back to my rig...anymore thoughts on which mobo to choose?...I really wanna do SLI, unless you think that it is not worth it.
