The title pretty much says it all. The components I picked out add up to $1304 which is more than I want to spend.

Heres what I picked out.

XP (NO VISTA (compatibility issues really if I can't uninstall SP2 I'm screwed)

1) The 8800gt stays!
2) I don't need a fancy case just something that i'll get the job done, I'm not even gonna look at it (under the desk.)

Do your best at getting the price under 1k please.

Don't mean to critisize but, more expensive ram for a cheaper build?

Anyways do you think I should wait till after Christmass to see if the qx6850 will come down in price? Or will the price cuts be far away into the future?

no not really, you got to make a choice, is this a work machine or a play machine. If gaming is important to you get the gaming card. If you want a work station card look into the quadro series from nvidia.

It's a work machine that will be used for some light gaming, so my question is will the quadro's work for gaming or will they suckass?

it run games on a basic level, but if you want to play the latest games with the settings maxed you will need to buy a gaming card.

Quadro's are ok at gaming, but great at cad. The card itself is already out of your 1k budget...

And it's $41 after rebates.. not more expensive...

I don't trust mail in rebates, but i've also never done buisness with Newegg. Do they hold true to their rebates?

I can't cut it too 1000$ without downgrading the CPU, GPU, or mobo. But I can help a little:

PSU (should still be plenty):

Case (only 5$ less... but it actually has another fan, so its better):

Keyboard (the other one is really nice, but if your not willing to pay more then a 1000$, you gotta cut back):

I would suggest dropping the PCIe 2.0 mobo, it's just too expensive. You could easily shave 100$ their. Also, Vista home premium is cheaper then your version of XP.
