Gaming Computer Confusion

Hello everyone.

I have recent bought myself components for a Gaming Computer.
AMD FX-6100 AM3+ 3.3GHz 14MB 95W Black Edition Six Core Processor
nVidia GTX 560
Patriot 4GB (2x2GB) G2 Series DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Memory
Asus M5A97 PRO S/L AMD Motherboard

Everything is fitted into my computer. Every wire connected, every component clicked in. I thought this should be a fairly good setup that can run high end games (ie Skyrim) with no frame drops.

What I'm confused about? I'm getting frame spikes while playing Skyrim. Even when I play Minecraft the FPS goes from about 100 FPS to 1-10 FPS for no reason (I have to exit out of it to get it to stop).

The point of this thread is to get some answers why this is happening, to check if I have everything working (if anyone knows any programs that can help). My brother has his computer with components worse than mine, but playing his games with no frame drops, not even Skyrim.

If anyone needs any extra information about my computer I'd gladly give it to you. I just want my computer to be what it should be.

(If anyone could help me with overclocking too, I'd be very thankful).

What resolution are you playing at? What settings in game? Are your drivers updated to 296.10? What power supply do you have? What is your friend's specs/settings/resolution?

In addition to what Microtomer said, check your GPU temps too. HWmonitor would be able to tell you the temp of your CPU and GPU.

Also, are the FPS drops from what you notice or benchmarks/FPS counters?

Sorry, it's only just taken me this long to notice the replies. I'm running an 800W PSU.
My CPU temp never goes higher than 50 degrees Centigrade (I don't know Fahrenheit).
The FPS drops happen off all a sudden.
The screen I'm using is a 1680x1050.
I'm currently on the latest driver version.
I don't know my brothers specs off the top of my head, I'll check later (as he's not here right now).
The games I have the drops on mainly are Skryim and Minecraft, The rare drop on WoW and Aion and when I record my videos.
If anyone can help me with components (eg RAM) that would up FPS in gameplay videos I'd be very great-full (As well as overclocking).

I don't recall where but I had read that some people were having issues with the new drivers and they rolled back to 285.xx?

Hmmm... If catt is right, roll back to the latest drivers. Ha, that did not sound right. Also, what 800 watt psu, what brand and make?

I'm using a Corsair 800w PSU.
And I heard the opposite, people were saying that their performance went up with the new update.. xD
Aaaalso, could this affect anything?:

Just because it is from Corsair doesn't automatically make it a good PSU. Not all PSUs by Corsair are manufactured by Seasonic, like the CX and GS series. If your PSU is from either of those series, it is a low-quality unit. :/

Its a 800w, so its a GS. It certainly not a low quality unit. It may not be the best, but it certainly is not low-quality.

But any PSU could go bad, even high quality ones, but I am not suspecting the PSU at this point.

I never said the PSU was amazing, I don't think any of my components are amazing. I only think they're okay. I just want to resolve my problems I'm having because it's bugging me. Also the error I get when I start up my pc is bugging me and I don't know how to resolve that.. D:

Select your operating system in the drop down box and the expand the chipset section. Download the latest version.

Just make sure that any earlier chipset drivers haven't been installed or that they have been uninstalled before you install the latest version.

What would installing the Chipset Drivers do? I haven't tested gameplay yet but I still get the screen when I boot my computer
