Gaming computer for around $800

Hi guys, I've never built a computer before, but I feel pretty confident with my hands, and I'd rather spend less money, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I know nothing about hardware, i just like playing good computer games. I don't need anything but the desktop (no OS either). I'd like to be able to play games like prototype on full or high settings, and maybe crysis on medium. I don't know if this is possible for $800, you guys tell me.

I was thinking of starting with this CPU/mobo:

Could you guys give me suggestions for the rest of the parts? I don't know anything about compatibility, and I don't need a flashy case.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Thanks guys. But i was wondering, is it possible to spend less on the case/PSU, so i can buy a better CPU/GPU?

Thanks again.

The CPU I picked is one of the best out right now your not going to get a i7 for $800. The GPU is one of the best right now the only way you can do better is if you get a GTX 285/295 and thats not going to happen with $800. As cardboardsword said right now is not a good time to buy Intel since all of there CPUs and Mohterboard expect for the i7 is pretty much outdated. I asure you the system I built for you will meet all your needs. If you wanted to you could get a different motherboard one with 2 PCIe slots so you could add another 4890 later on.

You might be able to skimp on the case, but not the PSU. You'll want something at least 600w and a good name brand company. A PSU failure sometimes can take out an entire system.

Hey, thanks for all the input guys.

The system I am looking at right now is:

Total is $802.88, before shipping/rebates.
This is about as much as I want to spend. Please tell me if everything is compatible, and whether there is anything that could be better for the same price :). And I don't know anything about overclocking, is it easy? And if I wanted to do it in the future, would I need an aftermarket fan for the CPU? And do I get that much performance benefit from it?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks a lot guys!

Caviar Black:

Now,you'll need to get ddr2 memory:

Same mobo, free shipping:

Yes, you would want an aftermarket fan for the cpu.

I thought that since my motherboard was AM2/AM2+/AMD3 I could run the 940 as a socket AMD3 and use DDR3 memory. Is this wrong?
