Gaming computer problem

Is there anyone here who knows about gaming computers and problems with them? I have a gaming computer (my daughter's) that is only using 256 megabytes of memory when it has an 8 gigabytes of RAM capacity. We lost power when she had it on and it only works in safemode now, and shuts off when she puts in into regular mode. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

I'd try reinstalling windows! Frmatting would be best but i think it has a repair function on the disk that should do the job fine.

you would but much better off moving this to a part of the forum with more traffic.

Also do you have the specs to hand that you have in your pc, it may help people help diagnose the issue more easily.

Unfortunately, i can not help with this as i have never heard of anything like it but thought i should mention moving the thread so you can get a few more views to help you out quicker.

Move it to Desktop Computers Section.]

If it happened after a storm it almost sounds like something got zapped and may be dead now. Reinstall Windows might help but generally only detecting certain amount of RAM is a motherboard issue. The reason it can't boot into regular mode I'm guessing is because most new Operating Systems will need way more RAM than that to even run. Safe mode is less resource intensive and probably will allow you to boot. Does the BIOS detect all the RAM?
