Gaming computer upgrade

If it's actually a GT 740, those are slower than a 560. I'm hoping that was just a typo though.

If it is a 760, there's a good chance you didn't hook up the power connectors, which would make it not run right.

An 8 pin connector is simply the plug that is at the end of a wire coming from your Power Supply. The plug is then plugged in to your graphics card to power it. 8 pin is because there are 8 pins within the plug. Typically it will actually be a 6 pin plug with an extra 2 pins that are on the same plug but have to be clipped on to make 8.

guys there is no extra 2 pin plugs :P they are like they are on the pic but without the extra 2 pins.
 
Well.

There's your problem. Did the graphics card come with a converter cable of any type?

John is there any chance some versions of this same model have only 6 pin connectors?
Banter if you only plugged a 6 pin into it then this could account for your issues with the card.
 
If you really only have one 6 pin connector on your psu then you will need 2 cables:
1. a 4 pin molex to 6 pin pcie adapter
2 a 6 pin pcie to 8 pin pcie adapter

Your card likely came with both.
 
The gtx 760 really needs a 500 watt power supply. You'll most likely burn up the power supply trying to run that video card. Get the CX500 and it will have the correct power connectors. He may have an older model cx430 which may have only came with a 6 pin connector
 
Even better you could just buy one of these, a 6 pin to 8 pin pcie adapter:
