Gaming computer with lag...help!

Hello,

I have what I like to think is a fast gaming computer. The specs are:

2 Nvidia 9800 GX2's (SLI enabled)
950 Watt Power Supply
Nvidia Nforce 790i Motherboard
4 GB RAM at 1333 MHz
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600, 6MB L2 at 3.33 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB
Lots of HDD space
Razer Baracuda sound card
24" monitor
Vista 32 - bit

Let me know if you need more details. I don't know if I have high standards or what but I expect (at least) 50 - 60 FPS with all settings maxed out. For some reason, I can't get that. I can never run any relativley new game at all max settings with 50 - 60 FPS. I think my hardware is pretty up to date and my drivers are all new. For example, the Darkest Of Days demo will only play smoothly with all the settings LOW for some reason. Lord Of The Rings Online still lags even with some settings toned down like AA and shadows. I use a website that checks if my PC will run certain games and it always shows my PC at the very top of the chart. I'm also pretty sure I don't have spyware, virus, etc. I dust it like 1 or 2 times a month and I don't think heat is a problem but I'm open. Can sombody help me?

Nice rig.

Did this just start happening recently?

Have you tried running only one card at a time to test each card?

use task mrg to see if there is any programs running that you dont need running

thats a pretty sweet rig, make sure you have anti aliasing disabled or only like 2x. if its on like 16x, it will lag cause you need like a gtx295 to do that.

You understand that this rig is running Quad SLI right? Shouldn't have to disable AA.

With this rig you should be able to go thru Crysis like a hot knife thru butter. Something went wrong, maybe one of the GPUs fried up or something??? Or RAM stick??? Or CPU overheats.

Maybe you should just reformat your computer and start again. you'll lose everything on your HDD (back up stuff you need to DVD's or whatever) but nuking it is the best way to solve a software problem once and for all
