Hi, I'm planning on buying a new desktop for both gaming and daily purposes and I need someone (everybody is welcome) to review my build and give some opinions about it and perhaps some suggestions.. thanks :):)

Build :
E8600 Intel Processor
GA-EP45T-UD3LR Gigabyte MoBo
GeForce 896 GTX 260
2x 2Gb DDR3 Kingston @1333
500gb Seagate SATA
Samsung DVDRW

and yeah I need some help on choosing the case can anyone help me as well??thanks :):)

I would not go for the cpu you are getting for two reasons,
firstly it intel have stopped making cpus with that socket type, meaning that when you want to upgrade or replace your cpu you would have to replace your motherboard as well. The cpu is still a good one, and if you choose to stick with the lga 775 socket i would recomend the E8400 instead. I recomend this one instead because i think the price for the extra .33ghz is too much, and these cpus are very easy to overclock.

If you decide to not go with lga775 socket i would recomend going amd and getting the Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz, a good cpu which is cheaper than the i7 and on a new platform which will make it easier to upgrade your cpu in the future. I think the Asus M4A78T-E is a good board also to go with that cpu.

The antec 300 is a case i would recomend as well, and western digital is what i choose for my hard drives :good:

wow, intel's goin to discontinue the production of 775 socket CPUs??haven't heard that news yet...
geez, need to think twice now...

talking about E8400 if we compare it with E8600 in the performance, will there be a big difference??

The difference in speed is small, not a big difference. I would definitely choose the E8400 over the E8600, the price increase just doesn't match the speed increase especially when these cpus overclock so well. I still say go for the Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition though, slightly more money but amds best processor at the moment

btw i think you want the E0 stepping version of these processors, much better overclockers

fail, there's really no "BEST" processor, depends more on what you gonna be using it on...if merely for gaming-tasking only then yes, AMD but for multi-tasking then Intels win's it by margins

Yeah that was a fail, did'nt realise that amd had a better cpu out, obviously I was mistaken in calling the Phenom II quad core 955 the best cpu AMD had to offer.

Good video card

A dual core (especially at the pricing of the 8400/8600 range) is kind of a waste in my opinion. You're buying into a dead socket type, you're still only buying a dual core, and while it may be a damned good one, its pretty much obsolete tech for a new computer. I'd go at least triple core at this point, although quad is obviously preferred. I'm going to second the AM3 socket type, as they're great performers with good oc headroom at very reasonable prices and a good upgrade path to come. If you'd rather intel, go i7 or don't bother. Again, the whole intel ditching their whole current line of sockets (LGA 775 and the 1366) you'd better make sure you get something you won't want or need to upgrade in the near future.

Just my 2 cents, I'm sure somebody will beg to differ :P

intel are stopping skt 775 so basicly its a dead skt now, unless they continue to make cpus for the socket but i doubt it.

I wouldnt go for an e8400...as good as the processor is,Its dual core...not quad.

You could save up a bit more and go for a Core i7...but its not cheap,Have you looked into a Phenom from AMD?

the price of the i7 is 2 times the E series rite now, the problem is my budget is around 1.3ish.. That's why i'm choosing the Eseries coz it has a rather good performance..
If I stick with core duo, will it survive at least for 2 or 3 years??

does intel produce phenom??phenom is produced by amd rite??
Btw,what is the standard build of today desktop??(for both gaming and daily use)

For the price margin and your budget, AMD Phenom II is better, Phenom II performs well too. You would need a reasonably bigger budget for the i7 set up.

AMD produces phenom II, for the same price as an E8600 you can purchase a phenom II 945 Quad core, which overclocks like a beast not to mention has two extra cores.
