gaming computer?

I wish I had dual core just for the fact that I leave alot of things running at the same time even when am gaming. If you ever checked the benchmarks for running other applications in the background while you gaming you would know Dual core have a HUGE advantage. Even the pentium 840 D was beating the athlon 64 fx-55 when gaming at the same time of runing lots of stuff in the background.

Take a look for your self.

Wait so "Bionicle" is multithreaded? Isn't that a lego kiddie game that is suposed to run on 8 yearold pc's? Kinda wierd to make a game multithreaded if only 10% of the population is buying it.

Oh and that chart above convinced me to buy dual core on my next pc because I try to play games and do homework alot of times... My game freezes and I lose everything that I had done on my homework... And my computer is dead for the next hour...

You really wouldn't need to go as far as a 3800+ though, A 3200+ Venice can be easily OC'd to close to 4000+ standards and save you $300 in the process. Even if you don't OC a 3200+ can save money for a much better graphics card. If you don't OC a 3200+ might become a bottleneck to the graphics card but I doubt it.

Games are single threaded applications that can only benefit from the speeds of fast single core chips.
And what about the multithreaded games?

Games are expected to become dual-core by late 05, early 06.
You mean multithreaded? ;)

Realy? do you have a website that talks about this? i would like to read more about this.
Well they've had multithreaded games out there for some time now ... just here and there, nothing mainstream

what would happen if you run a multithreaded game on a single core processor? Extremely slow?
No. It would run.

I don't think it would run. Multi-core games will need a completely new engine. However, I would think that developers would have both a single-core and multi-core version of games.
Ok this is multiple posts connecting "multicore" and "game" together. Games do not have "cores". Processors do. Games do however have threads of execution :)

there are already games that use multithreads, Bionicle, Colin McRae Rally 4 and Perimeter are mulitthreaded
I think they were releaseing a patch to make doom multithreaded,
And any game using the Unreal engine 3 will also be idea for dual core cpus
Awwww and i was making this such a loaded post .... :P

A lot of stuff on this planet is made for 10% of the population....

yes but i do alot of multi tasking when i do things like games.
Yes but most people dont use trainers :P

Are you implying that multithreaded and multi-cored are the same thing?

Im implying that you are incorrect in saying games are multicored. Games do not have cores. They have threads.

It was a sarcastic question. I'm sorry, I was just in a crappy mood when I posted and I felt like I was being called a dummy that supposedly I didn't know that games don't have cores. But anyway... onto other things, with the post about games being multi-cored... I meant that games are supposed to fully SUPPORT multi-cored processors in late '06.

LOL fair enough
1. At 15K posts "Ive seen it all"
2. Dont take things too personally :), i tend to come into a thread and nail things down on a technical level -- i know exactly what you meant but it was an important distinction to make between cores and threads :)

Okay, I'll keep that in mind, thanks for being cool about it. I'll try to be more chipper from now on :).
