Gaming Desktop With a Budget (setup)

Hey im looking to buy a new gaming desktop that will play all games on ultra with no issues. But at the same time i need to save money so if you think my setup is too expensive or that i can save money some where please tell me. My budget is no more than $1750. Here is my current list of parts.

Thats everything, I was debating between the SLI gtx 460s or 470s but i know that 460s can barely play Metro 2033 on ultra with 1920x1080 because the avg FPS is 28.5 frames but i also realize that Metro 2033 is a game that rapes graphic cards. So whats everyones opinions? Is it too much? Can i save money somewhere? Do i need more power supply? All that good stuff.

You can save money by going to a AMD setup. You won't be able to run SLI on an AMD board, but you can CF 2 6*** series cards and get simular, if not better, results.
Processor
Phenom II x6 3.2GHZ AM3 229.99. 2 more cores, and faster clock rate and still $65 cheaper. Or if you want to stay with a quad core, then you can run the Phenom II 955 that is $150 cheaper than the i7. Both of these are black editions, which means that the multiplier is unlocked for easier overclocking.
motherboard
Asus AM3 . $133 cheaper than the LGA1366 board, still supports CF, USB 3.0, and SATA 6GB/s. Supports both the hexcore and quad core phenoms listed above.
Graphics cards
Dual HD6850's. $120 cheaper than the GTX470's.

Everything else will work on this build. The PSU is fine (850 watts would probably be sufficient).
Total savings going over to AMD would be $318 (assuming you go hexcore). You could use that to get your OS (if you don't have it already) and a nice SSD to put it on. You won't be sorry with that simple upgrade (especially with that SATA 6GB/s).
 
yeah i see alot of people going with AMD and Radeon builds over the intel and Nvidia. Im a little timid just because ive been a Intel and Nvidia fan since the beginnings. Now that doesnt mean im not going to change i mean $300+ savings for the same is an obvious choice. But im not so sure yet, other questions i have are, is it viable to go with hexacore? i mean at this point and time most games hardly support Quad let alone hexacore am i right? But ultimately am i getting the same performance in the end? Im assuming building it is exactly the same? So from most gamers and computer builders is it better to go with a AMD and Radeon build? Lastly should i buy all my parts through Amazon or Newegg? Oh and from what i can find going with 6850s over gtx 470s im only losing an avg 2 fps which isnt bad at all. But still my questions are in the long run am i going to lose fps and processing power quickly in the year to come?

Oh and will someone send me a sight that compares crossfire to SLI in some different games THANKS

Crossfire and SLI scale about equally with the current generation of cards, but bear in mind if the game doesn't support SLI/CF you'll lose lots of performance.

I'd honestly wait a bit for the GTX 560 and SLI two of them, unless you can afford two 570's

your right.the i7 950 is around the same price as the AMD flagship CPU(which is the x6 1100T)and beats it in almost every bench.if you go AMD you'll lose on performance.if you got the i7 950 setup thats in your list you would have to get top of the line AMD components to keep up and it will still be slower.

point? same price but the intel will give you waaay better performance at the same price.

AMD really has nothing going for them at the moment except there 6xxx cards.

okay well if i got a gtx 570 or 580 i see that the 580 is hitting about 7 avg less fps on ultra graphics compared to the SLI 470. Should i just get 1 580 or get the SLI 470s? I cant afford 2 570s or 580s. But i can afford 1 580 then save money and get a second one in a year or so.
