Gaming Desktop

Hello, everyone. I've been doing some research on gaming PC's as I want to get one sometime soon. I do know a little bit about the process of building a PC and though I have little to no experience in doing so, I feel like I could put everything together once I got the parts. However, this is where I fall short. I know the kind of performance I'd like my PC to put out but I have no clue about what kind of hardware I would need. I want to get at least medium-setting graphics out of it. Furthermore, I'm a student and I need to save some of my money to pay for food, gas, and rent, so my budget is around $300-$500. Could someone give me some suggestions on what to get? Thanks a lot for the help in advance.

Your budget might be a bit tight unfortunately for a gaming desktop. I'll try and make a build for you later.

That's what I feared. If I were to extend my budget, how low could I go without building something that's junk? I talked to someone at a computer shop that my family has done business with and he said probably $800 or so.

Don't go crazy on certain parts and you should be able to build a decent computer. I've seen some pretty nice towers go for sale on craigslist for cheap. I know my buddy just sold his $1200 tower (build price) for about $700, so there's a good drop in price for it. Consider also a keyboard, mouse, monitor (or two) and speakers/headphones. You're budget is a bit tight if you're looking to crazy on something here, but I believe that if you're careful then you can do it :) There's a good CPU in the for sale page on the CF forum. Perhaps find a junky computer with the right mobo for the processor...idk :P look around for a bit longer and see if you can do it cheap. These guys will help yah build a nice one too ^.^ GL Man

I think for now I'll just buy a used one on craigslist. Something that will hold me over until I can justify spending enough to build a good rig. Thanks so much for the help! This is a really nice and active forum!

I like the first build from PCunicorns suggestions :) I might be wrong on the Craigslist thing, but look around just to be sure I'm wrong :P...Price out the components before even talking to the craigslist guy! A higher budget will def give you a better computer and knowledge on how to build one for friends in the future
