Gaming in WINE?

So, the main obstacle keeping me from switching to Linux is that my games won't run. I've heard rumors that you can game in Linux using WINE, but I've heard conflicting reports. So, has anyone here tried to play games in Linux (Probably Kubuntu will be what I use) using Wine? I'm not a real graphics junkie, the most intensive thing I play is Need For Speed: Most Wanted. Does anyone know if it's possible to play that in Linux somehow? either using WINE or some other method?
