Hello All! I am in the process of learning how to build a computer for the first time. My primary use of the computer is gaming. I mostly play first person shooter games and want to be able to max the graphics out. I also want something I can upgrade over the next couple of years.


My budget is $1,500. I have picked out parts that I think will work together. The OS, mouse, keyboard, etc are not part of my budget. I wish someone could help me with a couple of things.
1. Is everything compatible?
2. Am I going over the top with this build?
3. Would something else better suite my needs?
4. Adding another graphics card when the price goes down could be an option for me, so will the power supply I have listed handle what I have so far and the future upgrade?

i love em all, it'll be a great machine for years
you could probably save a few bucks with another case, a nice cooler master will cost alot less, or save a couple bucks on an antec 600 or 900
asus has some nice boards you could swap in, but evga is awesome too
 
Should I consider a full tower case for future upgrades. I would like to add an additional graphics card in the future, and I have read that these get really warm. Would the case size help with heat transfer?
 
it can, but you want to consider how much space you're gaining.
if the full tower you're looking at has space for 10 hard drives its not going to do much good (unless you put a bunch of fans in their place)
there's full towers and modular case's that are made for intense graphics, but they cost alot too
for most users an antec 900 or even the budget priced cooler master's are more than enough
 
if you planning on having 2 gtx 470's in sli you may want to consider having a few more watts on your power supply. Maybe something in the 800w or above. you are probably fine with the 750 but just to be sure I would go up a bit.

Great build! that would be fun to game with.
 
Would there be a significant change in my gaming experience if I added another hard drive in a Raid set up or possibly an SSD?

Not much for gaming. The benefits of RAID and SSD's are mainly for boot times and moving large files. It may give you a bit faster loading times when you are loading maps but it is not worth is IMO.

If you still want to to make an upgrade to your hard drive setup I would recommend a SSD for boot (like 30gb or so) and a 10,000rpm drive for the rest of your programs and files. The other thing to think about with RAID is that if you are using software RAID, like on your motherboard, will have to load the drivers every time you boot. This took approx. 15 sec. when I had RAID on my desktop. Sorry about that being so long. Hope that makes some sense
