gaming memory

You could boost your ram by simply going with a pair of 1gb dimms. Kingston Value Ram has done an excellent job on two boards here so far.

G.Skill not GEIL as some may make that mistake is supposed to have faster speeds seen there with a 2-2-2-5 type Latency seen. I prefer to go to the board's manufactuer's site to see the brands recommended for their brand to avoid seeing problems if one brand or type isn't supported by the board. Some memory seems to work best on some boards while not on others.

im not too sure, sorry....but another question, what about Patriot memory, how does that rank against whats in ym sytem now?

That's a newer brand compared to Corsaur or OCZ for sure. Some that run it haven't said anything negative about the brand. The favored memory pricewise for gaming is of course the Corsair xms series and even Crucial. OCZ often sees a much higher price for the premium brand there. Personally I've run a pair of Corsair xms series 512mb dimms until increasing the amount of memory with a pair of 1gb Kingston Value Ram and haven't seen a great difference while the increase certainly helped with games like Half Life 2, Counter Strike, Metal of Honor, and nothing noticable with Activision's Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix.

Your current memory will run the games out and coming out soon. Pc game designers work around the 256mb to 512mb minimum at this point knowing that store bought complete systems(Dell, Gateway, HP, Compaq, etc.) do shy on memory. But an increase can certainly help performance wise with some games that "love memory" and land a little harder on system resources.

For the best performance advised by the actual experts you would run the same sized dimms when having more then one installed. That would mean buying a pair of 1gb dimms to make an increase there and see top performance. That's the ideal thought there. Your system should still run well by adding 1gb(two 512s) or 2gb(pair of 1gb) dimms with one on each channel. Your current memory should have no problems simply running a new game that comes out.

yeah, well ill keep my eye out for a good bargin, i wont rush out for now, ill see how the games handle, if they need ill get it. i think ill just buy the same as whats in there, people say that this is the way to get max performance, is it true?

unless you have a quad core cpu don't worry a whole lot about memory speed. even then AMD's hypertransport would provide enough memory speed.

generally for gaming a lower latency is better though. you can pretty much overclock any memory out there though.

memory speed will make a slight difference but generally cpu speed matters a lot more.

That 3800+ X2 should still swing even though it isn't a 4200+ X2 model. If you are not planning to OC or looking there for a high end gaming need you should do better then the 3500+ single cored cpu even with the 2gb seen here.

Umm, what? No DDR2 RAM has 2-2-2-5 timings.

Master Mind is not running DDR2 memory which is generally at 4 or 5. The memory there is DDR400 PC3200 dimms. Memory like DDR2 667mhz will see something more like 5-5-1-5 with the timings cranked.
