Gaming PC - 1500 $

Hey...

I'd like to start this thread, saying that I'm danish. So all prices here listed, is danish prices changed into US Dollars.

Anyway,
I'm starting in school, in a few days, and I'm very tired of my old junk computer, so I've decided to buy a new one.
Once I was very active in games like Counter-Strike, and I've also played some Warcraft III. As I back then played heavy games, I would now like to do that again. I'm mainly thinking about games like Doom 3, Half-Life 2, SWAT 4, F.E.A.R., CS: Source and Unreal Tournament 2005. The demands are that graphical heavy games, as those mentioned above, should be able to run in at least 1024x768 without getting under an average of 50 fps... Not necessarily with any AA or AF though.

This is my current setup, and I would appreciate it, if you would check the composition, and give your best advice about the parts, and make suggestions on parts that doesn't get too much out of price range.

I'm ordering my parts from 2 danish sites:
1. www.shg.dk
2. www.databutikken.com

The following parts, are the parts from SHG:

AMD Athlon64, 3500+, S939, Bulk, Venice 300,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...20993&lokation=

Maxtor DM10 160GB, 7200RPM, 8MB, SATA 100,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...20363&lokation=

Raidmax Scorpio 868, No PSU, Green 65,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...10617&lokation=

Kingston DDR400, 2x512 MB, CAS 3 130,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...50891&lokation=

Papst 8412 NGML, 80x80 Fan (2 stk.) 30,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...30008&lokation=

NEC ND-3540, DVD±RW, Black 55,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...50675&lokation=

TR2-M14, A64 S754/939, 19 db 20,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...21049&lokation=

Arctic Silver 5, 3.5gr. Thermal Compound 8,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...20746&lokation=

Logitech UltraX Keyboard, DK 30,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...20482&lokation=

The following parts are from Databutikken:

Leadtek WinFast PX6800 GT 500,00$
http://www.leadtek.com/3d_graphic/w...00_gttdh_1.html

Asus A8N-SLI nForce4 150,00$
http://www.shg.dk/produkter/infobox...10731&lokation=

Microsoft Trackball Explorer Optical 55,00$

All included, the price will be about 1500,00$

This is my setup for now... But there are still some hardware questions, that I haven't figured out yet...

1. I've read tons of reviews on graphics cards, and every one of them has used FSAA (AA) and AF in the benchmarks... But what is it? I think it's some form of Anti-Aliasing, but I really haven't got a clue!
2. What is the best to buy:
Two normal bars of RAM with CAS-Latency on 2, or a dual-pack with CAS-Latency on 3?

I'll also just write a few explanations, to avoid any more questions than necessary...
1. I won't order a PSU, cause I have a 400W which I'm using..
2. I don't really need any advice about mice, because I only want the Trackball. I've become bad wrists from gaming, so I have to use an alternative for an ordinary mouse.

Thank you very much...

~Simon

P.S. If anybody has suggestions that would lower the total price, I would be happy. Suggestions about more expensive parts are not as welcome, because my budget isn't any higher than the 1500$ the computer costs right now.

International Shipping...

Hey...

Yes, I understand what you're saying. And at Newegg everything is so goddamn cheap compared to Denmark, but they doesn't ship international, so I really can't use them...
But do you know any stores that ship international, has medium big range, and still is cheap, then I would appreciate it...

~Simon

P.S. I sent an email for Newegg, asking if they ships international. You never know, and one might just get lucky =D

To answer your question it's better to buy two normal sticks than a package. A package is simply a marketing ploy, because any two identical sticks of DDR will work in dual channel if it is supported by the motherboard.

Maxtor DM10 160GB, 7200RPM, 8MB, SATA 100,00$
Do note that Maxtor does have a DM10 subseries that has 16MB of cache (for 200GB and up) and offers a marked performance jump

Kingston DDR400, 2x512 MB, CAS 3 130,00$
You should be able to find CAS 2.5 memory for roughly the same price :)

TR2-M14, A64 S754/939, 19 db 20,00$
The coolers featured here are significantly superior

Asus A8N-SLI nForce4 150,00$
The MSI K8N Neo4 Diamond and DFI LanParty UT NForce4 SLI models are significantly better ... if you insist on ASUS, the A8N-SLI Premium Deluxe makes some changes from the non-premium model worth considering
