Gaming PC - Build analysis

Hi Forum,

I last bought a £1200 gaming computer 6 years ago so as you can imagine it is nearly at the end of its life. With all the parts relatively outdated and obsolete, I feel it is time to buy a new desktop (I have no intention of building one).

I found this computer:

What are your thoughts? From a very basic knowledge of computer parts, this looks like it would play all modern games well?

Thanks

Kind of small SSD drive, get a 250/256gb drive. Go with a single 970 instead of 2 960's. Change power supply to a corsair 500watt or so.

For some reason it does not seem like there is the option to knock it down to 1 upgraded GPU. Seems like it's either 2 960s or 2 970s.

Do you think there is anything better for the £1-1.2k price range?

You probably have some SLI option checked in the build, I can't imagine a configurator now allowing a single GPU.

Good build. I'd go with this but very shortly the GTX 1070 and 1080 are coming (I think the 1080 comes out in about a week or two!) and they are offering big performance leaps, so you may want to wait! The 1080 is also going to be great value for money - much faster and much cheaper than the current 980 Ti!

Or to save more money you can build it yourself.

Thanks for all your responses.

I'm hesitant to build one myself...having never done it before. Looks complicated!
It's not difficult at all. It's like building a Lego kit. Most things only fit in one way and almost everything is listed in your motherboard manual or your computer case manual.

Assuming that I spend the same amount (£1-1.2k) but build it myself can any of you recommend a build that surpasses the pcspecialist one above?

I buy a lot of my stuff from overclockers.co.uk - the site looks crap but they have a good selection, decent prices and you can pay via Amazon (no need to make an account with Overclockers). novatech.co.uk is usually pretty good too, but sometimes they don't have as much choice. I often get next-day delivery from both for free!

Personally I never use PC Part Picker, I try to get all of the parts from one shop and usually I know what I'm looking for. The components in the build posted by Cisco001 are the kind of things you should be looking for.
