Gaming PC Build

So I am trying to help out a friend build his first computer. His budget is $850, but that includes monitor and OS so I would say $600 for the actual tower.

I started with this, very close to my build; which I am very happy with; but a little different. The other option would be for a Nvidia GTX 770 2gb. Another coworker offered to sell him one of these for $200 used, but he can pay him in payments which is a plus for my friend.

Any tips appreciated! Thank You!

I recommend swapping that case for the black one or the Corsair 200R (saves $). You'll like the appearance better.

Performance wise, this build is good. Not sure about the Mobo, but I'd recommend a 990 series or a 970 Gaming (MSI is good)...

Your build seems good, but try this

Also, you may want to try the Windows 10 tech preview, its free

Literally my computer right here.. Runs games superb but the 280X is what pushes mine above and beyond.. Also, Win10 preview does have some glitches, but it's very smooth for a beta version.

Lol yeah, your build is pretty much the gold standard of budget

:D:D:D I love it too!

OP: If your friend isn't going to be doing much rendering, the 860K (FM2+) will work really well. Otherwise the FX-6300 (AM3+) is still good..

Bit disappointing to see a fairly low-end Athlon chip in that build. That'll become a bottleneck in future if you ever put a nice GPU with it and it won't last as long as a nicer setup. Can you at least get an FX-6300 970 or an i3 Z77 platform? That would be a much better choice for the long run.

You can use Windows 10 Preview for free until April when it expires and then buy Windows 10 when it comes out, or you could buy 8.1 now for $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...6776&cm_re=windows_8.1-_-32-416-776-_-Product

1080p monitors are typically around $140 so that should leave you just enough money to get a nicer CPU/board setup and afford a decent card. You're probably looking at the likes of the R9 280 or GTX 760/770.

My next build is going to be an Intel quad core, but the OP already has a setup with the 6300/970 combo!

I edited a bit though. 970 Gaming Mobo from MSI, and the same case, but in black (he'll like the look better). http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BDpVZL

Yeah the FX-6300 + 970 and i3 + Z97 builds are better.

If it were me I'd probably go i3 but I prefer Intel.

I meant Z97 btw... don't know why I wrote Z77. :p
