Gaming PC.

Hello Computer fanatics,

Im looking to change my 3-4 years old Gaming computer. I currently run a Core 2 Duo E6550 with an BFG 8800 GTS. I'm looking for your help and advice on selecting the correct computer for my needs. Looking around on the forum, I saw alot of builds that helped me alot. Still, I remain uncertain about the components (price, quality and performance).

Information:
The last computer I bought was built by the compagny MicroBytes (in montreal,QC,Canada). I highly overpayed for it. Now that Newegg has a canadian online store, I was able to compare prices and I want to save by buying online (I also heard of NCIX). I have a budget of +/- 1600$ CAD. Here in montreal, we don't have alot of stores that sell components at a good price so I will probably end up buying everything online. I am hoping to play most current release games at MAX (or close to) quality with great FPS. Also, the games I'm planning on playing in the future are BF3, Diablo3, Skyrim, Etc.

Build:
I used Newegg for the build but I'm planning on looking around for better prices. Notes: I will appreciate if you use Newegg.ca for suggestion since I'm currently living in canada. Here we go!

GPU:

I already have a mouse, keyboard, screen, headset and speakers. I mainly took the suggestions from the User JohnnyP11 in this thread:

I just used Newegg.ca to build it.

Price Total: 1688.42$ Shipping+taxes not included. It's a little bit higher than what I was expecting but if it's worth it! I'll go for it :)

Thank you in advance for your help!

Thank you for suggesting DirectCanada.com! Everything is 10$+ cheaper. Also, is there anything else I should be looking for like extra fans, soundcard, etc? With shipping and handling, the cart I have is now 1650.64$ (around my budget). Do you guys think the components are good enought for a gaming computer?

Thank you again for your help!

The onboard sound is enough for must people. If it doesn't have the sound quality you're after, then you can always buy a card whenever. There's plently of fans on that CM case. Just make sure you use the cable management and route all your cables behind the panel as much as you can for great airflow.

Thanks claptonman,

I thought that the onboard sound would be good enough. Also, do you know if the cable management is easy for that case? I can probably watch some tutorials online or ask one of my friend (he knows more about building computer than me). I'm going to look for better deals online and start building it soon.

Again, thank you guys for the help!

the haf's have great management, but lian li tends to be better from what i've heard, also unless you want the best you can get several of those things are very overkilly. (mainly the gpu and the psu in this case, also the original mobo if you didn't change to the other one suggested by strangle.)

What do you mean exacly buy Overkill? I hope to get a system that will last a while... Also, I've look at the case Haf X and that thing is HUGE! I was wondering if I should get something a little bit smaller or I need something that big for my Components. My current computer got an Antec 900. Also, alot of people are recommending using a different cooling unit for the CPU. Should I be looking into that or the stock one is good enough?

I wouldn't even look at the stock CPU cooler.

I would suggest Watercooling for your CPU.

For example:

Bought myself one for the same CPU you're looking at (i5-2500K). Although I haven't bought the CPU and haven't put the new CPU Cooler on. But I have heard some great reviews. There's one-up from the H80 which is the H100.

But I don't think you need that much, as well as myself.

Aftermarket cpu coolers are only needed for overclocking!!!!!!!!! Which if you never intend to do then the 2500 is what you'll want as the k means it has an unlocked multiplier for overclocking

for the case, a full tower (like the haf x) is just prefered for better air-flow and normally cable management, but an atx mid-tower or desktop will be just as good, look at these

I looked and I think I will still go with the Haf X. The size factor isn't a big deal. I am not planning on Overclocking right away. But I might do it in the future. Also, I never saw the corsair H80 before but it look pretty easy to install. Do you know how it perform compare to other CPU cooling device?

Thank,
