gaming pc

I need some help getting started with a build list for a gaming PC. I have about a 700-800 budget for the computer without mouse keyboard monitor etc. I want to be able to play the latest sort of games with at least 30 fps for the next couple of years.
The only component I really have in mind is the AZRock z77 extream 4, I think its called.
So if you could help me choose some parts that would be awesome :) also I for the case I am going to get one with a side window.
Also for pricing, I will be ordering mainly from www.techbuy.com.au
Thanks.

Don"t get that board!

Reasons why
  1. Dpak Mosfets| Means it is cheap and low quality.
  2. Analog Mosfets| Means Less power flow, and dirtier power. Also means it supports unstable overclocks better.
  3. 4+1+1 power using douplers | You do not get 8+4 like it claims. You get 4*2+1*2+1*2, which is a looser and less capable setup.
  4. Limited voltage regulation| Higher ripple from the lower phase count means that higher overclocks are harder to hold and easier to BSOD/Kernel Panic
  5. Limited BIOS| Setup for retards. It is pert near impossible to get it wrong, and leaves out a lot of control. Took them 3 to 4 BIOSes to get it somewhere near right.
  6. Low quality build| As stated above, Dpak, Analog, bad BIOS, and it is a low copper content.
  7. Bad support system| If it goes bad after your return warranty from your distributor, you might as well grab a new board, as ASrock will not even try to help you.

Basically, do your research. There are 2 camps on that board. you either get a paper weight, or a decent board. Nothing inbetween.

What is your budget?

Basic build for new games, which can be edited once we know the budget, would be something like...

2500k/3570k/FX6300
Z68/Z77/990FX
8GB DDR3-1866MHz (price compared to 1600 means it is stupid to get anything less)
HD7850/HD7870
HDD
SSD if you can (I don't like them, as they don't do what most say they do)
CPU cooler
Case
PSU of 600 watts or greater
DVD drive
sound card if you need one.

My build consists of this:

Asus m5a97 motherboard
AMD FX4100 cpu
Corsair vengance 8gb 1600mhz RAM
PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk3 600 watt PSU
Antec 300 case
2 green led 120mm Apevia case fans (front)
Seagate barracuda 7200rpm 500gb HDD
LG modisc CD drive
EVGA gtx 550ti superclocked video card
Windows 7 OS (64bit)

This build cost me around $650(US) minus the operating system. It wouldve been a little bit more cheaper if i wouldve used the rebates but i didnt bother because they are a pain in the ass. Hope this helps.

Get a 302, its a little more, but offers better management, and grab a 650Ti 2Gb card for a little more money if you can spare it, dont worry about additional fans, as long as the case has plenty of airflow, most stock cooling can deal with that, as long as your not doing any overclocking.

SSD if you can (I don't like them, as they don't do what most say they do)
They do, it's just you seem to be unlucky. Everybody else who has one likes them and their systems have been much, much faster. I personally would never go back to a HDD.

Luck has nothing to do with it. The claims you all make about them do not fulfil. Games do not load faster (especially BF3). System transfer rates do not change. You still need to have a HDD, and most of all the start times are the only permanently affected area, and that is moot if you don't reboot 15 times a day. 5 to 10 seconds will not change teh world at all.

Quite simply, the speed is not worth $100 or more at all, for a desktop. Stick it in a laptop, and you get more use.

Lol, just played around with ramdisk.
10-15x faster then an SSD, also installed a small game on it and it loads freaking fast.

RAM disk is ever more useless than SSDs for games. As sson as your power down, your data is gone. If you store the image on a HDD/SSD to load up RAMdisk at startup, then you have increased boot time, and are still out the price of a HDD/SSD and the larger amount of RAM necessary to do it.

HDDs will do everything you need in a desktop, and will be plenty fast, as long as you don't restart 10+ times a day, or need absolute silence (witch is impossible anyway).

IntelliPower and/or Green means its 5900 rpm. You want 7200rpm.
1600 memory should be about the same price as 1333.
