Hi,

Im 16 and want to buy a pc that i can play decent games on eg battlefield 2 (my budget would be £500 or less) and just wonderin where to get one from and what to get.

I would like in it:

a processor - if intel around 3.0 Ghz
- if AMD a Athlon 64 bit that is decent

RAM at least 512 - as i can buy more at a later stage

Graphics card - anything good with 256mb :D

And a 17" or 19" tft monitor

please help me :D

Well, the computer in my sig works out at £600 with the Athlon 3000. I guess if you're not planning on overclocking, you could get a cheaper motherboard. Save yourself £30/40.

Edit: Bugger, you want a monitor as well. Uhhh... Your request is near impossible, I think, unless im wrong.

I know your after a 17" TFT with that too but i just dont think its practical to try and get one within that budget.

PErsonally i'd suggest getting a 17" CRT for now, nice and cheap and will display your games just as well. Save up and buy a TFT at a later date.

That system should do what you need and the 3200 very overclockable too

well i would want a pre built one as im not very good with computers apart form stuff with the mouse and key board lol. also i dont know how tho over clock so i dont think an AMD athlon 64 3000 would b good enough as our family pc has AMD 3200+ and that is only 2.0ghz

i was looking at dell as they have good deals on one of their multimedia pcs and it comes with a 19" tft for about £500
 
you accept that pc packages usually mean playing decent games on lowest graphic settings? if you're happy playing like that, then get a package from your local pcworld rather than dell. you get a problem with, you just take it over there rather than send it off.
 
ok thanks - are there any good sites where thaey can build a pc to your specifications - and would this be a good choice?
 
woah there, pc world? support from them is tragic, half of the people there dont know their arses from their elbows.

sorry that replies not to sound condescneding to what you've put, i just believe theres a lot better people out there who can offer decent support.

As previously said, if you get a ready built one from a manufacturer you are going to be playing at low gfx, dell often have some good deals, might even be lucky enough to find a good deal on ebay (although support wont be great from there)

in doing that you might as well just build your own from scratch as you looking at changing the main components of the system
 
yeh but isnt it extremely complicated to do that seeing as though i am only 16 ?? and i dont know that much about how computers work?
 
its not as complicated as you might think, most things will only go in one place and there are excellent guides on how to

Its more about having the confidence to give it a go, if your not wanting to then grab something ready built, you can still get something good enough for your needs im sure, suggestions are only that you might get something better if you build

Am sure people will be able to point you in the right direction, i've not bought a complete system for some time so i dont know too many places you can get them and are decent any more
