Gaming performance is decreasing...

Every time I play a game on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1501), it now lags. even games that never used to. I used to get 50-60fps around 3 months ago on DoD:S (Day of defeat source) for example, but now I get 10-20fps... counter strike lags, everything lags, getting half the fps I used to, with no change in hardware.
Would a reformat help?
any other fixes i could try?

System Specs:
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 (1.7GHz dual core)
RAM: 1GB
GFX: ATI Radeon Xpress 1150
Onboard sound

i know its not the best of hardware, but it annoys me that I used to be able to run games on the same hardware, but now it lags...

PS: Tried AVG, Adaware, ccleaner, etc, been using them since I got the computer, I don't think its a spyware issue, maybe corrupt drivers or something.

They are not good specs really.....

I know the computers not that good, but it can't even run cs 1.6 properly anymore.

Hmm the log's clean, not many files to be fixed.
Let's fix it and then you'll tell me did it help.
Open your HIjackThis again and choose Do a system scan only.
Check:
  • R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
  • R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
  • R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Now click Fix checked. Reboot your computer...
Still having such problems?

that definantly did help, even though there was only one versions difference between mine and newest. (8.4 > 8.5) added an extra 10-15fps in day of defeat and helped css somewhat. also raised my windows experience index by 0.2! :D

but it still isn't as good as it used to be... is there another way to boost gfx performance (without more hardware?)

Hardly... Not sure though, maybe some gamer comes here with an idea, but I think the best you can do is have the newest driver for your GFX installed.

Upgrading to 2 gigs of ram would help some. You could also try running some of the config files for CSS or DODS that lower the settings further than the default sliders let you, to increase FPS.

one weird thing is that all steam games don't seem to make any difference whatsoever to fps, if I run them on low or high quality. Resolution/antialiasing both affect fps, but everything else doesn't seem to make any difference. (using an fps counter, not just guessing) low quality lags, high quality gets equal average fps. weird...

use the ingame fps meter, net_graph 2 or something like that, and also try playing alone on a sever, create your own or something

You could always try reinstalling the games.
