Gamma Control on XP and Dell CRT

my monitor is horrible with dark colors and shadows, and after some web-surfing, i'm pretty sure that my problem is that something is wrong with the gamma. i downloaded powerstrip, and it saya my monitors gamma is 2.28!!!
i've also read that 1.8 is about the best setting. so, how can i change the gamma settings? i have the dell 828fi monitor, and via/s3g graphics unichrome igp. thanks for any help!
 
sorry guys, since i installed powerstrip, it gave me a gamma control utility that i didn'y see before, and now i can watch heroes season 2 on netflix in decent coloring.
