Gateway cpu speed need help

Hello im new here i just recently bought a gateway gt4022 amd athlon 64 processor. it says its supposed to have 2.4 ghz but when i got to system properties its says i have 988 mhz. it has phonex bios and i went threw to see if there was anyway to uncap the speed but i couldnt find anything. hopefully someone can help me i talked to the guy on tech support for gateway and he sounded like he had no idea. please help me

Sounds like you've been scammed, anyway try getting cpu-z and taking screen shots that way we can see what processor really is, but as i said before you've been scammed most likely.

well, you havn't been scammed, AMD cpu's have whats called cool n quiet which automatically drops the clock speed in order to conserve power and reduce heat. When the additional processing power is needed again it speeds back up. You'll see no loss in performance, it's actually a really neat idea especially for notebook computers where the power savings could help give you aditional battery life.
