Hello everyone. My monitor's been a huge pain recently and I'm hoping someone here can lead me in the right direction.
My desktop here is a Gateway, about 4 or 5 years old (although for the first year or so it wasn't run at all). As you can tell by now, the monitor's been giving me some trouble.
The monitor is a 24-inch HD LCD, model number fpd2485w. Recently, the power settings were changed (which may or may not be related, the timing is right). Shortly thereafter, upon booting up the computer, the monitor showed no image. Normally, when I turn the monitor on, I get the gateway splashescreen for a few seconds, then a color check splashscreen ("RGB" with the three colord undreneath), then the input appears. What's been happening is, when I turn the monitor on, the Gateway splashscreen comes up for a split second, then the screen goes blank. The power light is still on, the monitor's menu buttons still work, but the screen is black.
Now, that's what leads me to believe it's a problem with the monitor and not with the computer or a bad connection. The menus, which would appear even if the monitow wasn't connected to the computer, don't show up either.
The strangest part about all this is that this doesn't always happen. Sometimes I hook it up and it works fine. Sometimes I just have to pull the monitor's power cable for a few seconds and it works. Other times it refuses to work at all. A while ago, once when it was working, I changed the power settings back to what I thought they were originally, that had no effect. This has really got me stumped. I've got a (relatively) new 24-inch monitor sitting right here, and my computer's hooked up to a 10+ year old CRT. Tis has been a huge pain, so thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
