Gateway problems?

I just bought the ZX-series touchscreen computer for school, took it out of the box, put batteries in the wireless keyboard and mouse but neither the keyboard or mouse work.

Nothing more is stated in the manual so I was wondering if there is something i'm overlooking or if this is a known problem before I haul the thing back to the store.

Honestly, why tear it apart when you could just take it back to the store :/ Get one brand new. Then in the future when you don't have this very option to exchange it for a new one, fix it See what I am sayin'?

It could just be a defective computer...
